North West premier prays for peace and reconciliation in Bloemhof

Bloemhof- Premier of the North West Supra Mahumapelo on Wednesday convene a mass day of Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal to pray for peace in Bloemhof following unrest.

This event kickstarted a province-wide campaign spearheaded by Premier Mahumapelo as announced during the State of the Province Address.

“The purpose of this programme is to restore peace and stability in Boitumelong in particular and reignite the spirit of community and cooperation amongst communities affected by violence and other social ills in the area” Supra Mahumapelo said. 

The prayer day was facilitated by community and church leaders from various denominations. 

Mahumapelo has committed himself to a lasting and sustainable solution for the area that includes government intervention on socio-economic challenges facing the community in Bloemhof.  

“Before elections we came to here and promised the residents that we will come back to make sure we bring the spirit of togetherness, reconciliation, healing and renewal” Mahumapelo outlines.

According to premier, poverty and unemployment are rife in area and many projects will be implemented. “We have aqua-culture economic plan and a shopping complex, Brick-making project, Fishing project, Hotel and Guest houses and lastly he said Boitumelong stadium will be revamped.”

The premier said the water contamination issue has been resolved and technical team from national will be visiting the area oftenly. He also said three municipalities, Lekwa-temane, Madibeng, and Kagisano-Molopo district municipalities will get new mayors soon.

“Our forensic investigation are underway, and drastical measures will be taken against those who practiced corruption in the area” he said.

Mahumapelo said the intervention will be conducted over the issue of unrest where criminal cases were laid against each other. “We will try to mediate in cases being launched against each other during unrest in the area and try to find common grounds with those involved to discontinue with cases of course without undermining our justice system” he concludes.

North West premier will also visit embattled Marikana to try restore peace there.
