Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala could miss the start of the season after sustaining an injury the Gauteng Cup on Saturday.
‘Shabba’ was tackled by Moroka Swallows’ new signing Felix Obada in the second half of the first semi-final, which Chiefs won 3-0, and was replaced by George Lebese.
Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter confirms that there is a possibility that the Bafana Bafana midfielder could be out for a long time due to the injury.
“Shabba got a quite nasty one so we have to wait a couple of days before we can be sure how long he is going to be away. But certainly he is not going to be training tomorrow anyway,” he says.
Chiefs will start the season against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter-final early next month.
Overall Baxter was pleased with how his side performed during the inaugural Gauteng Challenge, which Amakhosi won after beating Bidvest Wits 8-7 on penalties in the final.
