The police in Olifantshoek are appealing to the public to assist in locating Anna-Marie Rooi (24), who resides at Plakkerskamp, in Olifantshoek. The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, Rooi was last seen by her mother on Sunday, 24 December 2023 in Plakkerskamp, Olifantshoek.
‘She was wearing blue jeans, a white top and black Adidas sneakers. Anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of Anna-Marie is urged to contact Sergeant KG Mqaisa at 073 840 2654 or 08600 10111 or either use the MySAPS app.

The police in Roodepan are appealing to the public to assist in locating Motsami Petrus Phoko (76), who resides at 48465 Kanana, Roodepan in Kimberley. The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, Phoko was last seen by his sister on 28 January 2024 in Roodepan.
Sam said it is alleged that Phoko has frequently been seen around the De Beers Stadium area.
“He was wearing grey jeans and black shoes. Anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of Motsami, is urged to contact Warrant Officer Vermeulen at 082 495 4717 or 08600 10111 or either use the MySAPS app.

The police in Roodepan are appealing to the public to assist in locating Allie Edgar Pommer (40), who resides at 21st Street, No 42 Homevale Extension, in Kimberley. Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, Pommer was last seen on 4 September 2022, when he left home after visiting his brother at Ivory Park Shanties, but never reached his destination.
Sam further said another missing person, Basil Owen Smith (35), who resides at 45201 Ivory Park in Roodepan, was last seen on 11 February 2023, wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt. He added that Smith is mentally challenged and likes walking from home to sit at the corner of Raven Street crossing in Roodepan and would normally return home.
“The two missing persons were amongst a list missing persons circulated by the police on 23 February 2023. Anyone who might have information about their whereabouts is urged to contact the Investigating Officer Captain Allistair Slambert at 071 675 4427 or 08600 10111 or either use the MySAPS App.

The police in Mgcawu District confiscated illicit cigarettes in Kakamas on 8 April 2024. The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, the police who were conducting routine crime prevention patrols, spotted a suspicious truck at a fuel station and requested permission to search it.
Sam said the police allegedly found cartons of Sahawi and Chief cigarettes valued at approximately R8.4 million. He further said the police opened an enquiry case docket and served the driver with notices to provide the original documentation of the purchasing of these goods and confiscated the cigarettes and truck.
“The public is requested to report any traders suspected of failing to comply with the customs and excise act, due to illicit trade in cigarettes and tobacco products to the police,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, applauded the vigilant police and reiterated that, the police will continue to deal decisively with those who continue to contravene the laws of the country.
Otola encouraged the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the “RATE OUR SERVICE” online survey to assist the police in improving services.

More than 300 suspects were arrested during Operation Shanela. The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, Operation Shanela remains focused in clamping down on crime in the province.
Sam said it is evident in the weekly arrests and police actions executed from 1 until 7 April 2024. He further said, with the focus on the reduction of contact and violent crimes in crime hotspot areas, they netted 300 suspects.
“Actions and police activities executed during the operations included, Vehicle Check Points (VCPs), stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections, drugs and other commodities smuggling actions.
“Several VCPs and roadblocks were conducted across the province during which a total of 3561 vehicles and 7696 persons were stopped and searched. More than 1168 compliance inspections at second hand dealers, scrapyards, recyclers, private security, firearm dealers, formal and informal businesses, farms and mines were executed,” said Sam.
He added that, numerous operational successes were achieved and 177 suspects were apprehended and arrested for murder, attempted murder, rape, assault, burglary, theft, illegal possession of firearm, malicious damage to property, dealing in drugs, stock theft as well as undocumented immigrants.
Sam said 124 daily wanted suspects were traced and brought to book for evading court appearances and contravention of court orders.
“The police confiscated large volumes of alcoholic beverages, including closing down a tavern in Gobblershop for operating without a liquor licence, drugs, non-ferrous metal items and cash that is believed to be the proceeds of crime,” he said.
Meanwhile, the acting Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, expressed his gratitude to all law enforcement agencies for the collective efforts and actions executed during this period.
Ngubelanga said Operation Shanela’s successes to date, are due to improved collaboration between the private sector and communities in the fight against crime.

A man (36) sentenced to five years imprisonment on 5 March 2024, by the Prieska Regional Court, for illegally possession of a firearm. The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, on 20 March 2023, the Prieska Crime Prevention Unit received a tip-off regarding the illegal dealing in drugs.
Sam said the identified house was searched and a 9mm firearm and ammunition was found in the possession of Songezo Nkompela. He said Nkopela was arrested and charged for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
“His bail was succesfully being denied. The court enforced a five year direct prison sentence and 2 years was suspended for 5 years on condition that, the accused does not commit a similar offence. He was also declared unfit to posses a firearm,” said Sam.
Meanwhile, the Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and her management, welcomed the sentence. Otola, indicated that, a firearm holder must be in possession of a valid firearm license for every firearm that he/she posses.
“Failure to produce a license is an offence and communities are urged to report illegal firearms to 08600 10111. I would like to commend the vigilant Prieska Crime Prevention team for their excellent conduct in ensuring the removal of the illegal firearm.
“We would also like to applaud the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Byron Gallant, for the meticulous investigation of the case,” she said.
A man (27) has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Barkley West Regional Court for raping a woman (24) in Holpan, near Windsorton on 29 January 2022. The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, the victim who is from Barkley West, visited her friends in Windsorton for the day and later on requested to be ferried back home.
Sam said, however, friends refused and she ended up meeting the accused, Allister Gustav Fummers, who offered to accompany her to her aunt’s house in the same area.
“She could not gain access to her aunt’s place and ended up sleeping at her cousin’s shanty in the same yard. While she was sleeping, she felt someone sexually assaulting her and noticed that its the cousin’s friend, who accompanied her to the aunt’s house.
“She tried pushing him away, but the suspect overpowered her and continued raping her. She was rescued by her cousin from the accused and alerted the police,” said Sam.
Meanwhile, Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, applauded the Barkley West FCS , investigating officer Detective Sergeant George Mosime for the sterling investigation that secured a prison sentence for the perpetrator.
She said community is assured that perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) are brought to book and the police will continue to ensure that, GBVF victims are protected and feel safe.
The Roodepan police are investigating an inquiry following a hit-and-run incident. Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, the preliminary investigations indicate that, the victim Kagisho Bezuidenhout (22) was walking home with a friend along the Maitland Road to Roodepan when a speeding white VW Golf hit him and sped off.
Sam said the Kimberley Emergency Services (EMS) ferried Bezuidenhout to the hospital for medical attention. He further said the incident occurred on 29 October 2023 at approximately 14:15pm.
