North West SAPS Host Netball Champions Competitions

THE North West South African Police Service (SAPS) kick-started their annual SAPS National Netball Championships in Potchefstroom on Monday.

Provincial spokesperson, colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said: “The championship is held annually on a rotational basis, and the event will ends on Friday. The event is hosted at North West University in Potchefstroom campus. SAPS Netball Championships will be attended by participants from all nine SA provinces and Head Office,” he said.

Mokgwabone said that the acting provincial commissioner, Major General Jacob Tsumane wished the team all the best.

Taung man arrested for raping a minor

A 46 year old man appeared before Taung Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after he was arrested in connection of rape. The suspect allegedly raped a 10 year-old girl more than four months ago, but he was only arrested on Tuesday this week.

It is alleged that the suspect, who was the SGB chairperson at the school, raped a girl at his home in Lokaleng village, Taung.

North West police spokesperson, col Sabata Mokgwabone said the matter took place in April this year according to the mother of the victim. “A man appeared before court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody until Monday where he will be back in court for formal bail application,”

7 year-old girl raped, killed in North West

A 27-year-old was remanded in custody after he appeared before Madikwe Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday, 31 August 2015). David Mahlangu, 27, was subsequently arrested by police after he allegedly raped and killed a 7 year-old girl.

North West police spokesperson, col Sabata Mokgwabone said: “The accused was arrested on Sunday, 30 August 2015 at about 11:00am in Madikwe. The minor allegedly went missing from home the same day. The community was searching for her when they saw the suspect coming out from the bushes. According to the information available at this stage, some community members held the man while others proceeded to the direction where he came from,” he said.

Mokgwabone said upon searching, the community allegedly found the minor’s body hanging on a tree. “The body that was hanged from the tree was of a missing girl and the man was arrested. The case has been postponed until Monday, 14 September 2015 for further investigation and the suspect remains in custody.”

Two remanded in custody in Rustenburg

TWO suspects were denied bail by Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court after they were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Khulekane Tshuma, 41, Sbonelo Ndlovu, 26, and Nhlanhla Ngwenya, 19, briefly appeared before Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

They were arrested on the N4 off-ramp towards Rustenburg on suspicion that they were responsible for robbery that occurred earlier in Swartruggens where cellphones and cash were taken.

 

North West police spokesperson, col Sabata Mokgwabone said the two suspects allegedly managed to evade the arrest when they were stopped by the police. “It is alleged that at the time of arrest, the accused were driving in a red Toyota Quantum.  Preliminary investigation was conducted, and two of them were positively linked to the Swartruggens robbery while the other one was linked to several robberies in Rustenburg,” Mokgwabone said.

 

Mokgwabone said the suspects are further linked to other cases in Zeerust and Magaliesburg where well-known chain stores were robbed off cellphones and cash. They were remanded in custody until Wednesday, (9 September 2015).

Three murder cases postponed in North West

Three murder accused were remanded in custody upon appearance in various courts on Tuesday, says North West police. A 30-year-old man from Madibogo-pan was apprehended for the alleged murder of an 18-year-old victim in Madibogo-pan on Sunday at about 23:00.

North West police spokesperson, col Sabata Mokgwabone said it is alleged that the victim was with his friends at the local tavern when the accused (Adam Phoi) entered the tavern and drew a knife. “The accused allegedly started stabbing people randomly inside the tavern and three people were seriously stabbed while one was transported to hospital where he died upon arrival,” Mokgwabone said.

He said Phoi appeared in Atamelang Magistrates’ Court and his case was postponed until 17 August 2015 for a legal representation.

Still in Madibogo, Edward Setsetse, 39, appeared in Atamelang Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing a 43-year-old victim in Lenganeng section in Madibogo. The accused was remanded in custody until Monday, 17 August 2015 for a legal representation.

Mokgwabone said according to information at their disposal, the accused and the victim were at the local tavern when a quarrel ensued between them. “It is alleged that the accused drew a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest. He was transported to the local hospital, but was certified dead on arrival. The incident took place on Sunday,” he said.

In Brits, a 19-year-old accused, Thabiso Pailo appeared in Brits Magistrates’ Court for the alleged murder of a 19-year-old victim.  The incident took place in Phase 1 Oukasie, Brits at about 15:50 on Friday. The case was postponed until Thursday, 13 August 2015 for a formal bail application. 

North West police said the victim was allegedly on his way home when he had an argument with the suspect.  Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife in his chest and was also certified dead on arrival at the hospital. The suspect was arrested on the scene after police reacted swiftly to the incident.

North West man hits woman with axe, burnt self

Police in Atamelang are investigating a case of  Attempted Murder and Arson after a 54-year-old woman was beaten with an axe by her 52-year-old boyfriend on Monday,  about 16:15  in Vergewart, Atamelang.

 

North West police spokesperson colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspect was involved in a fight with his girlfriend when he allegedly took out an axe and hit her on the head several times.

“The woman managed to escape through the window. Allegations further stated that the man burned himself inside the shack. The police were called to the scene and upon arrival the man was burned to ashes.  The woman was admitted in hospital and is in a critical condition” Mokgwabone said.

 

The police have registered a case of Attempted Murder, Arson and an Inquest.  Investigation continues.
