11 February 2025- A man (26) sentenced to 24 years imprisonment by the Victoria West Regional Court for assaulting and killing multiple victims in and around Victoria West back in 2017 and 2019. On 13 July 2019, two cases of attempted murder were reported against the accused, Ruwayne Duimpies, who at that stage went into hiding and was on the run.
Duimpies was traced and arrested in Beaufort West in the Western Cape by the Investigating Officer.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said the resilience and determination of the Investigating Officer, led him to uncover a murder case committed in 2017. Sam said he successfully investigated and brought before court with the two other cases for trial.
“The accused was found guilty on all three counts and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for murder, 6 years for attempted murder on count two and additional 6 years for count three, attempted murder.
“The court ordered counts 2 and 3 to run concurrently and the accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, said they welcome the sentence handed to the accused. Otola also praised the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Mojalefa Mokitimi, for his resilience and meticulous investigation of the cases that ensured that the accused was incarcerated.
