A man died after drowning in a water pit

10 February 2025- A man (36) allegedly drowned in Ronaldsvlei, near Kimberley on Friday. At around 11am, the SAPS Search and Rescue teams from the Northern Cape and Free State, retrieved the body of the man from the approximately 11m deep water pit.

The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the deceased is believed to be a resident in that area. Kock said the family reported the matter to the police after they found his shoes floating in the water of the pit after searching for him for two days ago.

“A case of inquest was opened. Anyone with information can contact the Kimberley SAPS detectives on 082 495 4646 or the SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or report it on the MySaps app. All information will be treated confidentially.

“The investigation continues,” he said.
