More than 800 cases including rape withdrawn

Mahikeng- North West premier, mme Thandi Modise sent a stern warning to perpetrators who think they can get away with murder.

“Men who have money should not find it easy to abuse women and children and pay them off to withdraw cases against them.” North West Premier Thandi Modise said in expressing shock at the high withdrawal rate of rape cases.

The annual crime statistic presented by Provincial Police Management to the Executive Council (Exco) at its forthnightly meeting held yesterday revealed that of the 3959 cases reported across the province during the 2011/2012 financial year, 801 cases were withdrawn by victims.

Premier Modise said that as a victim of rape during her teens, she knows too well that the pain of rape never goes away. She called on police to do everything in their power to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous crime do not get away scot free.

Exco called for an intensified campaign to discourage victims of sexual abuse from withdrawing cases to be embarked upon as part of moral regeneration and for outstanding rape cases to be pursued so that victims should find closure.

CRIME ROUND UP IN NORTH WEST


Rustenburg- One person died and four other passengers were seriously injured when three vehicle were involved in an accident. The incident occurred on Friday 29June 2012 at about 19:00.The four passengers who were injured were taken to Job Tabane Hospital. A case of Culpable Homicide was registered.

 

Phokeng- A 34-year-old male suspect was arrested for Attempted Hi-jacking on Saturday 30 June 2012 at about 00:05.It is alleged that the 32-year-old victim was driving at Phokeng main road when his vehicle stopped. The victim contacted his brother for help, a Toyota Quantum stopped while he was waiting for his brother and a group of guys came out. The victim locked his car doors and one of the suspects broke the window. The victim shot a warning shot and the suspects fled. One suspect was later arrested and charged for attempted Hi-jacking.

Rustenburg- Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after seven victims who were in the same vehicle died in an accident. The incident occurred on Saturday 30June at about 18:30 on R24 near Red Rock. The accident was between a Venture and a corolla; six passengers who escaped with serious injuries were taken to Ferncrest Hospital.

 

29n year old woman gang-raped

Mooinooi- A 29-year-old victim was gang raped by three suspects on Friday 29 June 2012 at about 23:30. The incident happened at Mamba Informal SettlementIt is alleged that the victim and her boyfriend were from the nearby tavern on their way home when they were confronted by the suspects who pointed them with a firearm. “Allegedly the complainant’s boyfriend managed to run away leaving her behind” Captain Amanda Funani said. The suspects then took the complainant under the bridge where they raped her.

12-YEAR-OLD REPEATEDLY RAPED IN IKAGENG!!!

IKAGENG- The police are investigating five count of rape of a 12-year-old in Ikageng. It is alleged that on Friday, 1 June 2012 at about 13:30, the minor was coming back from school when the suspects approached her.

“According to the information received they held her down at Sarafina Hall and took turns raping her. One of the five suspects, a 16-year-old, was arrested and others are still at large” Brigadier Ngubane said..

MOTHER RESCUES A RAPE VICTIM FROM HER OWN SON

TAUNG-The Taung Police have registered a case of attempted rape.

It is alleged that on 3 June 2012, around 20:00 the suspect approached the 19-year-old victim at her home, while she was with her younger sister. The suspect then walked the victim from home to the street, where he started assaulting and forcing her to his place with the intention of raping her.

“On arrival to the suspect’s home, the suspect’s mother saw her son assaulting the victim and reprimanded him” Brigadier Ngubane said. 

She took the teenage victim to her house and slept with her until the morning. The young girl then reported the incident to the police, investigations continues, the suspect is still at large.
