‘A man arrested after killing his girlfriend’

A 26-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday on a charge of murder.

 

The suspect was allegedly found with the naked body of his 22-year-old girlfriend beside his vehicle on Saturday along the Zeerust – Lichtenburg road.

North West police spokesperson maj Pelonomi Makau said the motorists allegedly discovered the body of a woman lying next to the suspect’s vehicle after he (suspect) stopped them for assistance after his vehicle broke down.

 

“According to the information available at this stage, the woman only had her underwear on, and it was suspected that she was allegedly strangled to death. Preliminary investigation revealed the woman’s body had bruises on her neck,” Makau.

The suspect was arrested after the police were called to the scene. It is not known at this stage if the woman was raped, and investigation into the matter continues.

Two suspects nabbed, beaten up in Taung

TWO suspects were admitted at Taung hospital after they were beaten  by Matsheng village residents, in Taung.

The atrocity took place on Sunday at around 12:00pm after four suspects allegedly entered the shop owned by Chinese national.

North West police spokesperson major Pelonomi Makau said four suspects allegedly entered the shop and pointed the owner with firearms.

“The suspects allegedly robbed the Chinese shop undisclosed amount of money and other belongings at gun-point. One of community members who saw the incident, screamed for help,” Makau said.

She said the community members chased at the armed suspects and managed to arrest two of them.

“The community chased after the suspects and managed to arrest two of them. The two suspects were severely beaten and were admitted at Taung hospital,” Makau said.

Ward councillor, Ebusang Tladi applauded community members who helped in arresting the suspects.

“Number of police need to be increased so that they can fight pound for pound against criminals. We waited for police for long, and community took the matter into their own hands,” he said.

Police advised community members to refrain from mob justice as that is unlawful and they could be arrested.
