South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West province has appealed for urgent intervention to ensure that the Tlokwe/Ventersdorp demarcation conflict does not spiral out of control.

The provincial chairperson, Paul Sebegoe said: “The social gap that exists between government and communities should be narrowed through consultation to resolve the current impasse and find an amicable solution.”

He said they condemned violence and destruction of public properties that erupted on Friday in Venterdorp, Ikageng and Potchefstroom and appealed for calm and renewed constructive engagement.

“We should draw the lessons from similar confrontations that arrogance as well as denying residents participation and input into processes that are going to affect development of their communities will not advance representative and participatory democracy,” he added.
