The return of Knowledge Musona to Naturena has not only pleased the Amakhosi faithful but also coach Stuart Baxter.
Speaking to the media after claiming the Gauteng Cup, Baxter expressed that he was aware of the qualities the ‘smiling assassin’ possessed before bringing him back to Kaizer Chiefs.
“I was well aware of Knowledge’s qualities before we signed him, I did what checks I could do and of course I haven’t worked with him, but I have spoken to people who have worked with him,” explained Baxter.
“I think a lot of the opinions in South Africa are tainted a little bit due to the fact that he was successful for Chiefs. He was a bit of a crowd favourite so I didn’t just want to go on what I was told here, so I checked a bit in Germany and the people that knew him said he was a good lad and the role that he had in Germany was not his best.”
Baxter added that one of the reasons they decided to bring Musona back and one of the reasons he decided to come back was to try and reignite his career.
“One of the reason we brought him back and one of the reasons it was in his interest to come back was to try rekindle what he [Musona] believes was a career to be treading water a little bit,” added Baxter.
The Kaizer Chiefs coach concluded that he has enjoyed the short time he has worked with the Zimbabwean striker adding that he feels he can play in two positions.
