‘Seventeen suspects back in court over Jouberton mayhem’

Seventeen suspects arrested in connection with gang-related crimes committed in February 20121 in Jouberton Township near Klerksdorp are set to appear at Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court. 

North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said the accused between the age of 28 and 53 were arrested during a crime intelligence-driven operation by a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Detectives, Tactical Response Team (TRT), and the Anti-Gang Unit.

“They were arrested in connection with gang-related crimes committed in Jouberton Location outside Klerksdorp. The suspects allegedly torched and damaged property belonging to apparent rival gang members.

“Furthermore, several cases of attempted murder were opened during the same period for investigation. These arrests brought the number of suspects arrested thus far to seventeen,” Myburgh.

Meanwhile, all seventeen suspects will appear at the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on 16 April 2021.

North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena congratulated the team for working around the clock to ensure that alleged perpetrators are put behind bars. Kwena once more warned that acts of lawlessness and undermining the authority of the State will not be tolerated.

8 Taung suspects arrested over ‘witchcraft’ fiasco denied bail

Taung- The suspects appeared before Taung Magistrate Court after they were arrested in connection of attempted murder.

Eight people were subsequently arrested on Sunday at Mokassa 2 village, near Taung after Kereditse Vinolia Sesing was allegedly assaulted by enraged villagers who accused her of turning Boikie Nthutang into a zombie.

The allegations were leveled against Sesing on Thursday and the community members went berserk.

They sent sesing and her family packing and they found refugee in Mokassa 11. She was attacked on her arrival in Mokassa 11 village and her husband allegedly ploughed on some villagers and leaving six injured.

Sesing was taken to Taung hospital with head injuries and other six injured residents were transported to local hospital. Police made break-through on Sunday and arrested eighh people in connection of attempted murder.

Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said they have opened a case of Attempted murder, assault and malicious damage of property.

The eight community members were denied bail and remanded in custody.

The case will resume on the 30th of July 2014 for formal bail application.
