Central defender Siyabonga Sangweni has become the second player to be withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to play Central African Republic (CAR) in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Qualifier that will take place in Cape Town on Saturday, 23 March 2013.
Kickoff is at 20h15.
Sangweni has been ruled out of the match due to a niggling knee injury, which has also forced fellow defender Tsepo Masilela to miss the clash.
Mulomowandao Mathoho has been called in to replace Sangweni and is expected in the Mother City this evening (Monday, 18 March), while Tebogo Langerman has already reported for national team duty as Masilela’s replacement.
Sangweni did not travel with his club Orlando Pirates to Zambia for a CAF Champions League match against Zanaco over the weekend.
Also out of the squad is Supersport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams who is nursing a hamstring injury he sustained in Angola in the CAF Confederation Cup against Petro Luanda over the weekend.
The 21-year-old had been called up as the 24th player in the Bafana Bafana squad to train and to get used to the philosophy and set up in the national team as one of the brightest prospects for the future.
The team has already arrived in Cape Town where they were joined by overseas-based payers Kagisho Dikgacoi, Dean Furman (both England); Anele Ngcongca, Daylon Claasen (both Belgium); and Tokelo Rantie (Sweden). Still to arrive are May Mahlangu, Dino Ndlovu and Siyanda Xulu.
Meanwhile, tickets for the match are still available at Computicket outlets, Shoprite and Shoprite Checkers stores across the country.
They are selling for R50 and R100.
