Madikwe- One room out of 13 rooms in a girl’s hostel of Herman Thebe Secondary School in Matau village (Madikwe) was found to be in fire this morning.

A hostel matron, two girls, 28 boys who got in the murky room in an attempt to save some of the belongings inside were rushed to Moses Kotane public hospital to be treated for inhalation of smoke but are reported to have been released already.

A case was opened with the local police to investigate the cause of fire.

Although they arrived after the incident, fire brigade were called to put out the fire before it caused any significant damage and the social development officials were called to counsel learners.

All items in the room were burnt out and the neighbouring rooms were only affected by smoke.

The department is stunned by this incident and wishes the police department to expedite investigating the cause of fire.
