The police’s star witness in the inquiry into the Marikana massacre has admitted
to having blood on his hands after stabbing at least three people.
This was revealed yesterday by advocate Dali Mpofu, who represents some of the survivors of the August 16 shooting.
Mpofu read out statements attributed to the police witness – known as “Mr X” – in which he details how he possibly killed at least three people – some of whom had reported for duty at the Lonmin mine during the strike.
“I personally stabbed one of the officials somewhere in the stomach and face. I stabbed him with a butcher knife I had with me. That person possibly died.
“I remember, while attacking people reporting for duty, I saw one lying on the ground and I personally stabbed him in the lower part of his stomach or [in his] hip. with a butcher knife I had in my possession and [I] don’t know if he survived.
