A prisoner who arranged a “Madiba Day” reunion for inmates and their families at Westville Prison – without authority from the Department of Correctional Services – is in hot water.
Convicted killer, Lucky Cyprian Mpungose, managed to place an advertisement in a newspaper announcing the event, did media interviews from prison and even extended an invitation to Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC, Willies Mchunu.
But the event , meant to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 94th birthday, was halted on Wednesday when shocked prison bosses got wind of it. They said they were probing the “fiasco”.
