Julius Malema remained quiet following news of his new suspension which saw him stripped of all his power within the African National Congress (ANC).

The embattled African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) leader was suspended on Wednesday with immediate effect.

He called President Jacob Zuma a “dictator” at an appearance at Wits on Friday.

The terms of the suspension remove his right to attend or address any ANC meeting or gathering.

He may also not speak publicly about the ruling party.

The National Disciplinary Committee’s (NDC) Derek Hanekom said, “We regard it as very serious. We consider these circumstances as serious therefore this immediate temporary suspension is warranted.”

It remains to be seen whether the ANCYL will respect this or stand firm on its promise that all current leaders are here to stay.

Malema will have to step down as ANCYL president and as Provincial Executive Committee member in Limpopo.

Malema will not be able to appeal the decision, which will be in force until his expulsion case is finalised.

The NDC will formulate new charges against Malema within the next month and a new hearing date will be set.

Malema is currently appealing his expulsion for sowing divisions within the ANC.
