Bloemhof- The situation is volatile in Bloemhof after unrest in the area. The community of Boitumelong township, in Bloemhof are on the rampage after they demand the mayor of Kwa-Temaneng and its councillors to step down.
The community members accused the mayor and his councillors for being incompetent. The community torched houses belonging to the mayor and his neighbour.
Police nyala also was reduced to ashes and two police suffered injuries.
“One of our police lost his thumb during the protest and both were taken to Christiana hospital medical attention” brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.
Police arrested many protesters and some already appeared before court.
“The situation is volatile and the police are closely monitoring the situation, and will continue effecting arrested on those who are breaking the law” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.
“It is a commitment we are making as the South African Police Service that people implicated in the burning and malicious damage to property cases will be found and arrested. Members of Public Order Policing have been deployed in the area and they will make sure that unruly elements are not tolerated and those who continue to instigate criminal activities will face the full might of the law”.
Truck was torched this morning on N12 and police investigations continue.-TDN
