THE community of Magogong village in Taung went berserk by barricading N18 with stones and tree branches. The protesters were picketing over poor service delivery.
Community leader, Mabale Modise (47) said they picketing because the Greater Taung Local Municipality does not take them serious.
“We have been asking the municipality to come and instill electricity in our section, but with no avails. They always come here with empty promises, and we are sick and tired of that,” Modise outlines.
According to Modise, Robaletheka section has been out of electricity since 2004 while other wards get their electricity instilled.
“We met with different municipality officials, and what they do? Send us from pillar to post. So we want electricity now.”
North West police were summoned to the area where situation was tense and volatile.
“One person was arrested for public violence after the community of Magogong village, barricaded N18 in protest. Police are monitoring situation and the atmosphere has since calmed down,” colonel Sabata Mokgwabone.
