Venue: Free State Stadium

Bloemfontein Celtic beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 this afternoon at the Free State Stadium, to retain the Macufe Cup.

This was the fourth time that Celtic have won this friendly competition. Chiefs have also won it four times previously.

Both sides started the game using a number of players who haven’t seen much action in official games this season.

Chiefs had their first shot at goal in the first minute, but Mandla Masango’s effort lacked power and went straight at Thembalethu Moses.

Kingston Nkhatha tried a shot from a long free kick in the 15th minute, but it went just wide, though Moses’ attempted save led to a corner.

Josta Dladla tried a shot from outside the area from the resulting corner but it was blocked in the box and bounced clear.

In the eight minute Matthew Rusike had a good chance to give the Amakhosi the lead, but he failed to get a shot off as he went down as he tried to control the ball in the box.

Wayde Jooste went on a good run for Siwelele in the 24th minute and was brought down just outside the box.

From the resulting set-piece Vuyani Ntanga put Celtic 1-0 up, as his direct shot flew into the bottom left corner past Brilliant Khuzwayo.

In the 28th minute Celtic were almost in again as Musa Nyatama played a beautiful through ball in for Lerato Lamola, but his shot was saved by Khuzwayo.

Dladla saw another shot blocked in the 38th minute, while Celtic had another chance in the 40th minute but Roderick Mutuma was unable to get his head to a cross.

In the first minute of the second-half Nkhatha had a chance from the edge of the area, but his shot went straight at Moses.

In the 52nd minute, substitute Philani Cele forced a good block from Moses, but Siyabonga Nkosi missed the goal to the right with his follow-up shot.

A minute later Masango went close, but his header flew just wide of the goal.

In the 55th minute Masango had another effort, this time from outside the box, but it went straight to Moses.

Nyatama tried a shot from just outside the box in the 67th minute, but his attempt flew over the goal.

In the 72nd minute Nkhatha tried an ambitious shot from wide of the box, but it was deflected out for a corner.

In the 75th minute, Lamola tried a shot from a free-kick, but it went straight at Reyaad Pieterse, who had replaced Khuzwayo at half-time.

Cele had another opportunity in the 78th but his shot from just inside the box was touched over by Moses.

In the 81st minute substitute Gabadinho Mhango broke away for Celtic but his final shot went across the goal and out.

Chiefs, who also brought on a number of substitutes including junior Internationals Lorenzo Gordinho and Chris Matombo in the second-half, pushed for an equalizer in the final minutes, but Moses and the Celtic defence stood firm.
