School principal nabbed for alleged corruption over a teaching post

1 June 2025- A school principal (56) to appear in Vryburg Magistrate’s Court for alleged corruption on Monday. This comes after the school principal was allegedly arrested by the members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation on Friday.

According to the Hawks spokesperson in North West, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, the suspect was arrested following an investigation into allegations of soliciting gratification from a complainant in exchange for a contract teacher post. Mathebula said it is alleged that in June 2024, the suspect promised the complainant a contract teaching post on condition that the complainant pays her R30 000.

“The complainant allegedly paid the suspect R25 000 and another R5 500 at the later stage. The complainant was subsequently hired. Following an investigation, the suspect was apprehended and charged with two counts of corruption.

“She will appear in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on 2 June 2025,” said Mathebula.

A man appears in court for corruption

A man (38) has been arrested by the Hawks for the alleged corruption. The Hawks spokesperson in North West, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, the members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation arrested the suspect in Klerksdorp on Friday. 

Mathebula said the members received a tip-off on Thursday regarding a warehouse in Klerksdorp, where illicit cigarettes were allegedly hidden. He further said on arrival, six suspects who were reportedly found in the warehouse, were arrested for being illegal immigrants.

“On 15 March 2024, the investigating officer was allegedly contacted by a man, who offered to pay him R15 000 gratification to secure the release of the six arrested illegal immigrants. 

“An entrapment was set, leading to the arrest of the suspect after he had allegedly paid the investigating officer R4000. The suspect will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on 18 March 2024, facing corruption,” said Mathebula. 

Meanwhile, the North West Provincial Head of Hawks, Major General Patrick Mbotho, has commended the members’ actions for maintaining integrity by ensuring that the suspect is brought to book.

Mother and son nabbed for fraud in Klerksdorp!

Two suspects aged 49 and 20 were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team for fraud in Klerksdorp on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Hawks spokesperson in North West, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, in January 2023, the suspect allegedly approached the service provider in Klerksdorp, where she allegedly introduced herself as a Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) in the local municipality.

“The complainant allegedly told the woman to inform him when tenders are advertised by the municipality. She allegedly told the complainant that she would see what to do. In March 2023, the suspect reportedly had a meeting with the complainant, where she told him that his business partner was awarded a tender by the municipality to collect refuse.

“It is further alleged that, she told the complainant that she is aware that he has rented his trucks to his business partner and that he is also benefiting from the tender. The complainant was allegedly given an ultimatum to pay the suspect R100 000 or the contract will be cancelled and never renewed,” said Mathebula.

He further said the members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team received information about the payment arrangement, which the suspect had reached with the complainant. Mathebula added that, the suspect and her son were arrested soon after being paid R30 000 in cash by the complainant.

“They have been charged with corruption and will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on 24 August 2023,” he said.
