Police are looking for missing Maryanne Venter

8 September 2024- The police in Mooinooi request the community’s assistance in locating Maryanne Venter (17), who is residing at Plot 52 Bokfontein. According to the North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Amanda Funani, Venter was last seen by her family on 5 September 2024.

“Venter is mentally challenged. She left her home without telling anyone where she was going. A search was conducted around the plot and surrounding areas of Mooinooi without any success.

“At the time of her disappearance, Venter was wearing black sleepers, white short-sleeved T-shirt and green short trousers. She is short, has a slender body, brown eyes and short curly hair,” she said.

Funani further said anyone with information regarding her whereabouts can contact the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Andile Molate of Mooinooi Detectives on 060 970 9200 or can alternatively call Crime Stop on ‪08600 10111. She added that anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via the MySAPS App from your smartphone.

A learner arrested for being in possession of firearm and ammunition

A learner (15), who was found to be in possession of a firearm and six ammunition, has been placed under the care of his parents. According to the North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Amanda Funani, the police in Klipgat, were dispatched to the school following the call from the principal.  

Funani said on arrival, the principal showed them a firearm and ammunition, as well as the learner who was allegedly found in possession of the items. 

“The learner who allegedly told the police that the firearm belongs to his brother, who has gone missing since Wednesday, was arrested. The preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen at Mabopane Township, in Gauteng Province on 11 July 2024. 

“The minor was assessed by social workers on 15 August 2024, and placed under the care of his parents. Meanwhile, the police are looking for the learner’s brother. The minor is expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Children’s Court on 21 August 2024,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 1 Commissioner, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape, urged the parents and firearm owners not to leave their firearms unattended as that poses danger to the community.

Two nabbed for allegedly being in possession of 25 stolen goats

Two men aged 29 and 44 are expected to appear before Mogwase Magistrate’s Court on 11 March 2024, in connection with the alleged possession of suspected stolen goats. According to the North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Amanda Funani, the suspects were apprehended on 8 March 2024, after 25 goats were found in their truck. 

Funani said the Sun City Police were conducting their daily patrols on the R565 at Matooster, when they spotted a suspicious Hyundai truck along the road. 

“The police went to investigate and whilst searching the truck, they discovered the goats. The duo failed to account for the livestock and they were immediately arrested. 

“The suspects were allegedly on their way to Soweto in Gauteng, when their vehicle broke down on the R565 road. The investigations revealed that the goats were stolen at Makgope village, near Mabeskraal in Rustenburg,” she said.  

Meanwhile, the North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated the police for their vigilance that led to the arrest of the duo. Kwena said the police will continue to work hard to remove criminals from the streets of North West.

One suspect nabbed for murder, another still at large

A suspect (22) is expected to appear before the Delareyville Magistrate’s Court on 6 March 2024, in connection with the alleged murder of a man (32). According to the North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Amanda Funani, it is alleged that on 2 March 2024, a fight ensued between two groups at a local tavern in Delareyville and one person was stabbed to death.

Funani further said the suspects allegedly fled the scene after the incident. She added that, however, the members of the community allegedly spotted one of the suspects on Monday, afternoon (4 March 2024).

“The community wanted to take the law into their own hands, but the police intervened and the alleged suspect was detained. Furthermore, angry community members went to the police station and demanded that, the police release the suspect.

“Moreover, they burnt tyres and pelted the police station with stones. Public Order Policing (POP) were mobilized and members of the community dispersed shortly after POP’s arrival,” said Funani.

She said the police are still searching for the second suspect, who fled the scene after the incident.

Meanwhile, the North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and urged members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Kwena said, the police must be given the opportunity to do their job in order to ultimately ensure successful prosecution.
