The community of Leeudoringstad in Maquassi Hills came in large numbers to attend memorial service of Katlego Diseko (16), Bulelwa Koli (18) and Emily Oageng (22) of North West School for the Deaf at Leeudoringstad Primary School on Friday.

The emotional memorial service was also attended by amongst others; MEC Wendy Matsemela for Education and Sport Development, local mayor of Maquassi Hills, Nonny Khabi and chairperson of the  provincial disability forum Moagi Kodisang.

Speaking for the provincial disability forum, Kodisang pleaded with parents of the survived learners to find peace with the incident and continue to bring learners to schools.

“Parents should not despair and continue to bring learners to school. Education is the most powerful tool for the future.

“The police report that will come out of this tragedy will assist the department in correcting the mistakes that happened at the school”, Kodisang said.

MEC Wendy Matsemela also addressed the mourners and the grieving families by assuring them that answers will be issued to the public at large on the investigation.

“I will not try to hide for answers to the South African society. Once the investigation has been concluded and the report is out we will be able to respond to all the questions from the South African society”, an emotional Matsemela said.

Matsemela added that there is hope in the system called education. “Let us continue to work together with all the affected families as we try to give them answers to what has happened. We are hurt as team education and Leeudorignstad community”.
