Mogwase-A 35 year-old motorist who plunged on twelve revellers end up killing five is due to appear before Mankwe Magistrate Court.
Police said seven people were left injured while five were confirmed dead on the scene after a alleg drunken driver plunged on them.
The incident took place during the weekend at Lidig village near Rustenburg.
“We have arrested a 35 year-old lawyer from Johannesburg and charged him for cupable homicide and Drunken and Driving” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.
It is alleged that a driver was drunk and driving at a high speed.
The Department of Roads and Transport in North West said they have recorded 18 deads and their Arrive Alive campaign was a success despite some hiccups.
“We deployed our traffic personnels and police in more hot spots and respond was so great. Motorists were so co-operative on our roads” Simon Mmope said.
Mmope said even though accidents happened at unexpected areas, they manged to control the reckless and negligence always experienced on South African roads.
