Pietermaritzburg – Two social development department employees in Pietermaritzburg have been arrested for allegedly stealing 43 laptops, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.
The department was expecting a delivery of 94 laptops, but only received 51, spokesman Col Vincent Mdunge said.
“The consignment was officially signed for by one of the arrested and the 43 missing laptops had been misappropriated and sold in various areas including Imbali township, Umlazi and KwaMakhutha.”
Police recovered 18 of the laptops and were searching for the rest.
One of the accused appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of theft. The other was expected to appear in the same court on Friday. – Sapa
