Counterfeit tobacco products seized

31 July 2025- The Upington Border Police, K9 unit in conjunction with Brand Holder of Spoor and Fischer Attorneys and OTP Distributors, conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Groblershoop on 30 July 2025. The police said they raided four shops and counterfeit clothing and tobacco were found for sale at the premises. 

The ZF Mgcawu District police spokesperson, Sergeant Omphile Masegela said various items, including shoes, shirts, trousers, caps and other clothing items to the value of R1 903 500 were seized including counterfeit tobacco products valued at R462 920. Masegela said the items were handed over to the relevant stakeholders for further investigation.

“During inspections at another store, the owner was found trading with fireworks without a permit. A fine was issued and fireworks with an estimated value of R 50 570, were also confiscated.

“The police found electronic devices and different network sim cards valued at R70 950, which upon investigation, were discovered to be in contravention of the Electronic Communications Act,” she said.

Masegela further said the targeted and focused operations by the multi-disciplinary teams’ significant successes. She added that these collaborative efforts are welcomed and commended by the ZFM District management.
