THE family of Marope in Ganyesa village in Kagisano-Molopo municipality which is 70km outside Vryburg was left dejected after their heavily pregnant daughter passed away at the local clinic.

According Jeffery Bongiwe Marope who was uncle to the deceased, said his niece went to the clinic for check-up but ended up dead.

Katlego Precious Marope,25, went to the clinic last week and allegedly experienced complications.

“Katlego was heavily pregnant, but not sick. She went to the clinic for check-up, but ended up dead. According to the nurses on duty, Katlego was transferred to a local hospital after complications. We were flabbergasted after receiving the shocking news,” Jeffrey said.

He also said the hospital in Ganyesa informed them that they cannot do post-mortem.

“We suspect that even though Katlego was dead, the unborn baby was still alive and could have been saved. We demanded post-mortem results, but the hospital cannot provide us with them. They said we must conduct our own post-mortem results,” he outlines.

However North West Health department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane refutes all the claims and said according to the clinical report pertaining in the case, Katlego reported to the clinic with severe case of high blood pressure.

“She experienced severe high blood pressure which resulted in cardiac arrest. The condition resulted to a cut of blood and oxygen to the baby and the baby died soon after her mother passed on,” He said.

Lekgethwane also highlighted that the case will be reviewed by the Patient Safety.
