NORTH West Department of Sport and Education said the discussions are underway to continue in building the unfinished Manthe Indoor Centre that was left unattended more than eight months ago.

The Indoor Centre came to grinding hauled after the misunderstanding between the department and contractor more than eight months ago.

According to ward councillor, Crespo Menyatso there was a misunderstanding between the department and contractor and that resulted in contractor abandoning the project.

“We understand that, there was a misunderstanding between the contractor and department of sport and education and the matter is now handled by department,” Menyatso said.

He said as a ward councillor, residents always demand answers regarding the indoor centre.

“My challenge as a leader in ward 14 where the project is situated, is that each and every meeting members of the community demand to know the project ‘s progress from me which is sometimes very difficult for me to answer because there is no progression.

“I took the matter up with the mayor’s office, Kaone Lobelo  and also engaged with relevant department like North West MEC for Education and Sport, Wendy Matsemela.  We went to the site with representatives from MEC’s office together with consultants,” Menyatso said.

North West Department of Sport and Education spokesperson, Elias Malindi said the department is still investigating the matter and all will be sorted out soon.

“We are aware of the matter and we can swiftly say the continuity of the project will take place soon after we’ve engaged with relevant authorities.

“We cannot say much regarding the matter as we still have to look at what really caused the delay of the project and see what decision we could come up with,” Malindi said.

Manthe Indoor Centre was supposed to help the youth to enhance and develop their skills as Manthe village, in Taung consists of unemployed youth and poverty is the order of the day.
