Brits- Five people died in different road incidents across the province over the weekend. On early hours of Friday three people died on the scene when a Nissan Almera collided with a truck on the R104 road near Brits Plaza.
“Two further died on separate incidents when pedestrians were hit by vehicles on the R30 and N14 respectively on the early hours of Saturday. Cases of culpable homicide were opened and police are investigating” departmental spokesperson Ben Bole said.
Furthermore, the North West Provincial Traffic Authorities have arrested five drivers for drunken driving over the weekend. Three were arrested in Itsoseng and two in Mahikeng.
Meanwhile, North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Gaoage Molapisi raised a concern on the behavior and conduct of road users on the weekends particularly during month end.
Molapisi said the department will strengthen its high impact interventions to ensure that every offender faces the will of justice. He further appealed to road users to obey road rules and the law.-TDN
