18 March 2025- The National Assembly has passed the Public Service Commission Bill during today’s plenary session. The Bill aims to regulate the Public Service Commission (PSC) and enhance its independence by among others, establishing its secretariat to support its operations.

In response to the challenges and plans that require improved performance and the delivery of a competent, ethical, and developmental state, the National Assembly (NA) said the Bill will help position the PSC to play a significant role in creating an efficient, innovative, and responsive public service.

“A key benefit of the Bill is that it will maintain and restore the PSC’s independence, like the institutions outlined in Chapter 9 of the Constitution while adhering to an agreed public administration mandate.

“The PSC will be recognised as a constitutional institution that reports to Parliament. The Bill will now be submitted to the National Council of Provinces for concurrence.”
