8 August 2025-A former Rustenburg-based attorney, Emmanuel Mosele Tau (52) briefly appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on 7 August 2025, on charges of theft. Tau was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on 7 August 2025.
The Hawks spokesperson in North West, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula said Tau’s arrest emanates from an investigation by the Hawks into allegations of stealing over R2 million meant for his Road Accident Fund (RAF) clients. Mathebula said five complainants who laid complaints with the Hawks between 2023 and 2024 alleged that the accused received funds from RAF and failed to pay them.
“Following an investigation, the accused was arrested and charged with five counts of theft. He appeared in court and was granted R10 000 bail. His matter was postponed to 10 October 2025 for his first appearance in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court,” he said.
