Drug abuse on the rise in Western Cape


CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Health Department says there has been a drastic increase in the use of tik in parts of the province.

Monday marks the start of National Substance Abuse Awareness Week.

Health and social development MEC Nomafrench Mbombo and Albert Fritz will visit the Cape Town drug counselling center in Mitchells Plain.

Mbombo’s spokesperson Siviwe Gwarube says there’s been an increase in substance abuse figures from areas including Manenberg, Mitchells Plain and Nyanga.
