North West Premier Thandi Modise has strongly condemned the alleged butchering and consumption of dogs in the Lichtenburg area as reported in the media.
“We strongly condemn any form of cruelty to animals and wish to urge residents to report any such incident so that perpetrators of this despicable act could be brought to book,” said Premier Modise.
According to an article in the Daily Sun dated January 30, in one incident a dog was tied to a steel pool, its stomach ripped open and its fur removed while the dog was still alive.
The dogs are allegedly eaten by foreign nationals working at a local factory.
According to the article over 600 hundred dogs have been killed in this way before being eaten.-TDN
