Police are searching for a missing girl

The police in Ventersdorp are searching for a missing girl, Maletlhogonolo Hlongwane (5), who allegedly went missing on 28 April 2024 at around 6am. The North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said, Hlongwane and her sibling (3), were left alone at home in Goedgevonden village by a parent, who allegedly went to a local tavern. 

“When a parent arrived back home, Hlongwane was nowhere to be found. An intensive search was conducted around Goedgevonden, but that did not yield positive results. Hlongwane, who is dark in complexion, was last seen wearing a red tracksuit top, peach trousers and no shoes. 

“The police request anyone who may have information that can assist to locate her to contact Sergeant Cecilia Batantse or Capt Willem Smit on 060 967 3966 / 082 772 6453 or the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Stop number on 08600 10111,” she said.

Myburgh further said alternatively, information can be shared via MySAPS App from your smartphone. She added that a case of child neglect is also under investigation against the parent.

A man nabbed with ivory worth R50 000 in Rustenburg

A man (23) was arrested for being in possession of ivory in Geelhoutpark, outside Rustenburg on 15 March 2024. The North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said, the suspect was arrested during a crime intelligence-led operation. 

“The raid was conducted on Friday afternoon. The police conducted a search at the house and discovered ivory to the estimated value of R50 000.

“The suspect was as a result, arrested for Contravention of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004 (Act No. 10 of 2004) after failing to give a satisfactory account of the possession,” said Myburgh.

She further said the suspect is expected to appear at Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on 18 March 2024.

The missing Thabang Reuben Molopyane found unharmed

Thabang Reuben Molopyane (15), who went missing on 10 March 2024, was reunited with his family on Saturday afternoon (16 March 2023). The North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said, Molopyane is residing at Lerulang Section in Rabokala village, near Letlhabile. 

She said he was last seen on 10 March 2024, at around 8am by a family member. Myburgh further said, Molopyane was wearing black jeans, a blue shirt and push-in sandals at the time he went missing. 

“Thabang, who has a slender body structure, average in height and is brown in complexion, was found in Jericho. The police investigations into his disappearance, led the police to another family member’s house in Jericho, where he was found unharmed.

“The police appreciate the communities’ assistance. Keep following our social media page to stay informed,” said Myburgh.

Three suspects nabbed for possession of illicit cigarettes

In an effort to crackdown on criminality, police in Schweizer Reneke, apprehended three suspects for possession of counterfeit goods. The North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said, the police received a tip-off that led to a tactical operation on 13 March 2024, at around 12:30pm. 

Myburgh said three shops were identified and pounced upon, leading to the discovery of illicit cigarettes to an estimated street value of R14 660. She further said Khaled Mohammed Mainddin (25) and Maharaj Nasir (23) were arrested and both paid an admittance of guilt fines of R5000 each.

“They were fined for selling counterfeit goods, thus contravening Section 2 (3) of the Counterfeit Goods Act, 1997 (Ac no 37 of 1997). During the operation, police confiscated 130 cartons of RG cigarettes, 26 cartons of Aval Tobacco products and 36 packets of 20 X RG cigarettes.

“The third suspect aged 36, was also arrested for Contravening Section 2 (3) of the Counterfeit Goods Act, 1997 (Act 37 of 1997) and will appear before the Schweizer Reneke Magistrate’s Court on 18 March 2024,” said Myburgh.

Meanwhile, the North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, expressed gratitude to all members involved in the operations for their hard work and cooperation that led to the arrests.

The police need your assistance to locate the missing Tshegofatsho Gaenone

The police in Taung request the public assist them in locating the missing Jojinah Tshegofatso Gaenone (30) from Manthe village, near Taung. The North West police spokesperson, Col Adele Myburgh said, Gaenone went missing on 8 January 2024.

Myburg said, according to the family member, Gaenone is mental disturbed.

“When she left the house, she was wearing a maroon and grey blouse with black skirt and shoes. Tshegofatso always go away and comes back after a few days.

“However, it is been two weeks since she left the house. She resides in Manthe village, near Taung and anyone who knows about her whereabouts can contact Taung Police Station or the nearest police station,” she said.

Myburgh further said, they can alternatively contact Crime Stop on 0860010111 or inform the police via MySAP app through a smartphone.
