Nedbank Cup: Kaizer Chiefs v Polokwane City

Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium

Time: 20h30

Channel: SABC1, SS4

Polokwane City will go into their Nedbank Cup last 16 game against Kaizer Chiefs today with their confidence high having won four of their last six games in all competitions, and being the highest scorers in the previous round of the Nedbank Cup when they put seven past SAFA Second Division side, Island FC.

Duncan Lechesa’s men triumphed 3-0 in their last league game against struggling NFD side, Dynamos, and will now be looking to complete a giant killing when they tackle one of South Africa’s big three in the Moses Mabhida.

Lechesa told the crew that he’s not had to motivate his players to play Chiefs. He said, “We are confident, although we know it’s not going to be easy. We’ll go out and try our best. They’re doing well but that’s not a problem for us. We don’t have to motivate them, my players have been watching Chiefs week in week out. If Maluti can do it, why can’t we?”

There have already been three non-PSL sides beat elite league opposition in the Round of 32 of this year’s tournament, and the team from Polokwane will be hoping to honour their fallen comrades, who tragically died in a bus accident last year, and keep up their run in the cup.

Last year:

Chiefs: Lost 1-0 in the quarterfinals v Free State Stars

Polokwane: Lost 2-0 in the Round of 16 to Roses United

Players to watch:

Chiefs: Bernard Parker

Polokwane: Koketso Mmotong
