Bloemhof- North West Health Department confirmed that an infant has became a victim of diarrhea that caused an uproar within the community of Bloemhof.
MEC of Health in the province Magome Masike said the death of the baby came after many people were admitted in hospital because of contaminated water in the area.
“We have received a complain regarding conteminated water in the area and many people were admitted in hospital for medical attention” Magome told sabc.
A 9 month-old baby died in results of contaminated water and Masike visited the area on Thursday. He said the water sample has been taken to laboratory and Environmental Water officer will test it to see what it contains.
“The baby died from dehydration and diarrhea. We need to educate our communities to visit clinics and hospitals earlier if they experience any unusually situation regarding their health to avoid complications” he said.
It is alleged the cause of the uproar is contaminated water from Vaal river and the reservoirs that were not being cleaned for sometime.
Executive Mayor of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Elvis Tladinyane said the result from the laboratory will be available on Friday.
According to reports, the community experienced the complications on Saturday after drinking contaminated water. -TDN
