African National Congress Youth League in North West (ANCYL) gathered together at Pudimoe Community hall in Taung in celebration of June 16 on Tuesday.

The day is celebrated in order to recognize the role of youth in the liberation of South Africa from the Apartheid regime.

Those who attended the event was ANC mother-body in the province and ANCYL leadership.

Various schools were in attendance and many youth dressed in various school uniforms.

Hundreds of students were killed during the protest back in 1976. Although this youth revolution did not see the taking back of the language order immediately, it did see a turning point in South Africa’s liberation campaign which ultimately saw the downfall of the apartheid government there.

The former youth league member in the province, Pontsho Kgosieng said Youth Day in South Africa is celebrated in memory of all the youngsters who lost their lives during the protest, especially the death of Hector Pieterson, a 12 year old student who was killed during the uprising.

“The day is celebrated around the country in order to celebrate the energy of youth. The youth of 1976 fought for liberation and now our youth is fighting a different battle. This day also sees various educational discussions being organized by school and college students around the country. Various youth oriented non- profit organizations also organize awareness campaigns on this day to make the youth of the country aware of the challenges in the current environment of the country,” Kgosieng said.

ANCYL provincial secretary Sipho Dial said the youth of today are fighting for economic emancipation and more jobs need to be created.

“The youth are faced with different issues compared to 1976 youth. The country experiences decline in job-creation and now that leaves more youth with blank future. The youth are faced with HIV epidemic, unemployment, teenage pregnancy and alcohol and drug abuse issues,” Dial said.

The ANCYL chairperson, Collen Maine who was also pronounced as the presidential candidate for ANCYL nationally, encourages the youth to use education as the gateway vehicle from poverty.

“The ANC-led government’s Freedom Charter said the doors of learning shall be opened. I would like to encourage the youth to use education as the tool to survive and alleviate poverty.

“We know that to have a better society, we need to learn and stop engaging in issues like drugs and alcohol that will destroy our future. The future of this country is in our hands, now is the time for us to take the baton and work hard. What legacy would we leave behind?” Maine outlines.

All four districts in North West gathered together to celebrate June 16 2015.

One of the youth who attended the event, Kedibone Matshidiso from Pudimoe location said “It was the Soweto Uprising which laid the grounds for the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of the Apartheid regime in the country,” she said.

DA to lodge SA Institute of Health Care Managers complaint against Kuruman Hospital CEO

919867356

BY KEDIBONE MOLAETSI

Kuruman- The DA will today lodge a complaint against the Kuruman Hospital CEO, Agnes Sesing, to the South African Institute of Health Care Managers, for gross negligence and mismanagement of her hospital.

This comes after the DA visited the hospital on Friday, following various reports on blood spillage from the hospitals’ mortuary.

“Subsequently, we laid charges against the MEC for Health in the Northern Cape, Mac Jack, who should ultimately be held accountable for the state of this public hospital.

“The general condition of the hospital is appalling. Hospital management had to dispose of medical waste and equipment on the precinct. There is a clear lack of funding from the Northern Cape Health Department, as the neglect is endemic”  DA Federal chairperson Wilmot James said.

DA said the sight of patients on stretchers stationed outside the hospital among dumped hospital beds and other medical waste is shocking and extremely disturbing.

According to DA, these are clearly inhumane and undignified circumstances. The hospital has an unused wing, broken fences and the hospital is completely unhygienic.

Section 27 of the Constitution states that every South African has the right to access health care.

They say how are the residents of Kuruman expected to be satisfied with this hospital in such a desolate state, and say 3 years have passed without any Provincial government support.

“Mr Jack, has not once communicated to the residents, patients and medical staff, what he intends to do to fix the condition of the hospital and ensure the hospital meets its Constitutional obligations” James said.

North West Modise to meet police over farm scandal: Report

Thandi-Modise.jpg
NCOP chair Thandi Modise on Sunday declined to discuss a report that she would meet police to discuss the discovery, earlier this year, of dead and starving animals on her North West farm.

“I don’t want to comment,” Modise said when asked about the Sunday Times reporting that a meeting with police had been scheduled for next week.

The newspaper quoted North West police spokesman Brigadier Thulani Ngubane as saying the National Council of Provinces chairwoman had been “co-operating with us from day one”.

He said a meeting planned for July had been postponed, but that police understood “the nature of her work and business”.
In July this year, police and NSPCA inspectors found more than 100 dead animals, including sheep, geese, goats and ducks, on her farm. It appeared they had been without food or water for over a week.

About 85 pigs, who were still alive, had begun cannibalising 58 dead pigs, and were reportedly drinking their own urine. Many others found alive had to be put down.

There were no farmworkers on the property, no electricity, and the water pumps were broken.
On Sunday, Ngubane said while police were still awaiting Modise’s version of events, others involved in the matter had already been providing statements. Modise had reportedly told police she would travel to Potchefstroom to meet them.

The National Prosecuting Authority told the Sunday Times it had not received a docket, indicating whether Modise would be prosecuted.
On Friday the NSPCA said conditions on the farm had improved.

“Cattle on the farm have been supplied with sufficient food and appear to be in an acceptable condition,” spokeswoman Grace de Lange said in a statement.
She said farm managers were implementing advice from vets on how to run the farm.

North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Gaoage Molapisi said the South African Government is losing assets due to road accidents. “We continue to lose officials on these roads due to reckless driving. Youth spreading lies: WCape ANC

iol news pic Songezo Mjongile

Claims that the ANC leadership seeks the reinstatement of expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema were rejected on Monday.

Western Cape provincial secretary Songezo Mjongile blamed a “mischievous group of youth” for “disinformation” on what happened at a provincial general council (PGC) at the weekend.

“The disinformation spread by a mischievous group of youth is devoid of truth and must be rejected outright,” he said in a statement.

“No discussion on Malema took place. The Western Cape ANC denounces all rumour-mongering outside of party structures as they lobby for narrow positions.”

A statement, supposedly by the provincial ANCYL, was sent out on Monday welcoming a decision apparently made by the ANC in the province at the weekend for the reinstatement of Malema, suspended secretary general Sindiso Magaqa, and spokesman Floyd Shivambu.

The statement read: “The ANCYL in the Western Cape impressed on the PGC the urgency that the special ANC national executive committee (NEC) that sits (Monday) resolves the matter through a political solution.”

Mjongile said the PGC dealt with the state of the party leading up to 2014 as well as the formulation of a provincial policy position ahead of the national policy conference at the end of June.

“The PGC has instructed the youth league to focus on building its structures and convene a legitimate conference in order to elect its leadership.

“The focus of the province is to diligently build and unite the ANC in the Western Cape. Thus the PGC dealt with transformation, strengthening the economy, and skills.”

Provincial ANC leader Marius Fransman said at the weekend that there were a few individuals “at all levels” who had begun to involve themselves in divisive behaviour.

The resolutions of the PGC would be released later in the week. – Sapa

ANCYL NEC members plead with Mantashe!!!

OLEBOGENG MOLATLHWA

A group of disgruntled ANC Youth League members has expressed dissatisfaction about the no-confidence vote passed against league treasurer-general Pule Mabe at the weekend.

Seventeen members of the league’s national executive committee have asked the ruling party to intervene.

They will submit their letters to the ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe today, asking him to look into the circumstances that led to a vote of no-confidence being passed against Mabe. As a result, Mabe was removed from his post as treasurer-general and national executive committee member.

At the media briefing, at which the outcomes of the weekend’s committee meeting were outlined, the league revealed that Mabe was removed from his position because members had lost confidence in him.

The latest developments could give rise to speculation that the youth league is now even more divided.

Some league insiders are speculating that Mabe’s expulsion was an attempt to sideline him in the race to replace Malema as the league’s president.

It is also understood that the 17 members had resolved to resign from the national executive committee but their resignations were rejected.

The youth league has for the first time openly accused the ruling party of using internal disciplinary processes to fight political battles against its leaders.

Though this view has until now been the preserve of supporters of expelled president Julius Malema and suspended secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, the league’s national executive committee members yesterday openly criticised the ANC for resorting to using internal party processes to silence its leaders.

Delivering the committee’s statement following a heated meeting, the youth league’s deputy secretary-general, Kenetswe Mosenogi said, “We have no doubt that our cause is fair and we call on all structures of the ANC to work side by side with the youth league to challenge what is a gravely unfortunate action of using discipline to deal with differences of opinion on a political matter and a blatant attempt to suppress and silence the views of young people.”

The statement expressed support for Malema, Magaqa and the league’s suspended spokesman, Floyd Shivambu.

The statement continued: “The national executive committee unequivocally resolved to disagree with the ruling of the national disciplinary committee of appeal. The observations made by the committee [of appeal] undermine the autonomy of the youth league.”

The league also called for the ANC’s national executive committee to intervene and ensure the “immediate reinstatement of our leaders”.

The statement questioned the reasons for Magaqa’s suspension because he had apologised to Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba, as ordered by the national disciplinary committee last year.

ANC spokesman Keith Khoza yesterday dismissed the youth league’s accusation and defiance, and its support for Malema and Magaqa, stating that the matter had been settled.

League deputy president Ronald Lamola yesterday dismissed suggestions that the league was defining itself outside the ANC.

Mabe no longer ANCYL treasurer

iol news pic Pule Mabe 2

The ANC Youth League’s treasurer general Pule Mabe has been removed from his position, the league said on Monday.

“The comrades lost confidence in the treasurer general,” African National Congress Youth League deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi told reporters in Johannesburg.

“The NEC (national executive committee) resolved to release the TG, Pule Mabe from his duties.” The decision was made at the ANCYL NEC meeting held over two days at the weekend.

Mosenogi said Mabe had not been suspended from the ANCYL, but was no longer the treasurer general or a member of the NEC.

“We have not suspended him…. He’s still an ANCYL member.”

The ANCYL called on ANC leaders to intervene in the national disciplinary committee of appeal’s decision to expel its leader Julius Malema and suspend secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and spokesman Floyd Shivambu.

“We demand they be reinstated,” Mosenogi said.

“They remain our leaders.”

The ANCYL wanted a “political solution”. – Sapa

ANC welcomes youth league’s stance

The African National Congress (ANC) on Tuesday welcomed a statement issued by the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) distancing itself from controversial comments made by ANCYL’s Floyd Shivambu about Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa is the chairman of the ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeals.

Deep divisions appear to have emerged in the youth league overnight.

Shivambu was first backed by the youth league’s Magdalene Moonsamy over his attack on Ramaphosa which was then denounced by the league’s Deputy President Ronald Lamola.

“We have seen the statement of the ANC Youth League and indeed we welcome it,” the ANC’s Jackson Mthembu told Eyewitness News.

The ANC said on Monday Shivambu brought shame and disgrace to the movement with his comments in a newspaper article over the weekend.

Shivambu criticised Ramaphosa’s decision to uphold his and Julius Malema’s convictions for sowing division within the ANC.

He said it showed Ramaphosa had sold out the revolution.

On Monday night Moonsamy put out a statement saying the youth league was worried about what it called “the ANC’s insulting of Floyd Shivambu”.

“Issues that have been raised by comrade Shivambu should be met with engagement,” she said.

An hour and a half later, Lamola said the league denounced and disowned that statement.

He also said Shivambu wrote the article about Ramaphosa in his personal capacity and it had nothing to do with the league.

ANCYL adamant it decides on its leader!!

BY Stephen Grootes

As Julius Malema contemplates what could be his last week as a member of the African National Congress (ANC), the party’s youth league says it refuses to follow the party’s National Disciplinary Committee’s (NDC) instruction to stop him from acting as its leader.

The ANC on Sunday said it would simply not allow the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) to disobey its constitution.

Twelve days ago the NDC said it was suspending Malema from all party activities, after he told crowds at Wits University that President Jacob Zuma was a dictator.

Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Magaqa said the ANCYL will decide who will lead it.

“It will be upon us as the members of the ANC Youth League to take a decision whether the president must attend or must not attend.”

But the ANC’s Jackson Mthembu has a warning for the league.

“We will enforce the constitutional provisions of the ANC Constitution.”

NDC chair Derek Hanekom said this is a matter for Luthuli house to deal with.
