22 August 2025- A man (26) was arrested for murder and attempted murder by the police in the early hours of Friday morning, 22 August 2025, in Carousel View, near Maubane. The suspect allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Marota (20) and attempted to kill his current girlfriend (20).
The North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh said the reports suggest that, the lifeless body of Marota was found lying in the street with multiple stab wounds outside Dubai tavern on 21 August 2025, in Maubane village. Myburgh said Marota was declared dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
“Further investigations into the matter revealed that the suspect, after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, went back to his house, where he stabbed his current girlfriend multiple times.
“The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment. Following the incidents, the suspect posted the reasons behind his evil deeds on social media,” she said.
Myburgh further said a suspect is expected to appear before the Temba Magistrate’s Court on 25 August 2025, on charges of murder and attempted murder.
Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng said: “The police will make sure that a watertight case is put before the court and that the suspect will answer for his dastardly and cowardly crimes against defenceless women.”
