Three police officers aged 39, 44 and 48 were arrested for corruption in Hebron on 26 February 2024. This comes after they have allegedly demanded R6000 from a complainant in order not to arrest him.
The Hawks spokesperson in North West, Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula said the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation members, arrested three police detectives for alleged corruption. Mathebula said the suspects were arrested at a mall in Hebron.
“The reports indicate that, the trio solicited gratification from the complainant in order not to arrest him. They allegedly demanded R6000 and the complainant was able to pay them R2000.
“The suspects reportedly contacted the complainant, demanding the outstanding amount. After the matter was brought to the Hawks’ attention, an entrapment was set and the three police officers were caught soon after receiving R4000 from the complainant,” he said.
Mathebula further said the suspects were with corruption and will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on 27 February 2024.
