Cape Town – The Emirates flight carrying SA doctor Cyril Karabus touched down in Cape Town shortly before noon on Friday.

Emirates Flight EK772 left Dubai in the early hours of the morning.

Karabus boarded the flight without incident after experiencing numerous delays.

He had been detained in the United Arab Emirates since 18 August 2012, after being convicted and sentenced in absentia for the death of a patient in 2002.

Even though he was acquitted on 21 March, his return home was delayed because he was still listed on a UAE database as a fugitive from justice.

Karabus received his passport earlier this week, but then faced another delay when his visa had the wrong dates.

He finally boarded his flight early on Friday morning. A large crowd was waiting for him at Cape Town International Airport.

Phiri Gets His First Brondby Goal

db6cf58783c69d9271952f7bf7ef92d7110
South African youngster Lebohang Phiri opened his account for Brondby last night during their 4-0 win over high-flying Nordsjaelland.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who went through Wits’ youth academy and is currently on a long-term loan with the Danish club, broke into the first team late this season and has now managed to get on the scoresheet too.

Phiri is judged to be one of the most talented youngsters to come out of South Africa in recent years and it may be that Brondby look to sign him on a permanent basis once his 18-month loan comes to an end next year.

However, it remains to be seen what kind of transfer fee The Clever Boys may demand for the youngster, although their good relationship with the Danish outfit will certainly make a move easier to organise for the youngster.

Brondby have had a difficult season in Denmark this year, although a draw in their final game will all but ensure their status in the country’s top flight, the Superliga.

Mosimane: Top 8 is our main focus

f516a9fd7833598f8c67d893a34be8e4
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says they are totally focused on getting the three points against Bidvest Wits on Saturday in their last League match of the season.

The coach told the club website: “When I joined Mamelodi Sundowns, the team was not in a good position as they were second from bottom and I knew that we had to work hard in order to take the team out of the relegation zone.

“If you get out of the danger zone, the next step is the Top 8, which is where we are at the moment. I’m aware that there’s still one match to go but the good thing about it is that our fate is in our own hands,” Mosimane said.

“If we win our last match then we stay in the Top 8 and that should be the main focus for us because that’s the most important thing right now,” he added.

Sundowns are eighth on the League standings and a win on Saturday will virtually guarantee them a Top 8 finish.

“We are playing against Wits who have already qualified for the Top 8 but that doesn’t mean that it will be any easier for us because they are also a good side who didn’t get where they are by mistake.

“They have a very good balance of talented youngsters and experience, which makes them a bit tricky, but we have done our homework and that should see us through,” he told the club site.
