Basetsana crush Tanzania

Image

South Africa…….(2) 5

Tanzania ………..0

(Basetsana win 9-1 on aggregate)

Basetsana ran rings around their Tanzanian counterparts pounding them 5-0 to complete a 9-1 aggregate win in this exciting World Cup qualifying match played at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

On a sun-drenched day, the Sheryl Botes girls were on another planet subjecting their opponents to a torrid afternoon.

The massive win set up a grudge match against rivals Nigeria to confirm who goes to the World Cup in Canada next year.

Regular scorer, Kaylin Swart set the ball rolling when she found the net through a penalty in the 19th minute before Mosili Makhoali made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

With many thinking Basetsana would take the foot off the pedal in the second half, Shiwe Nogwanya slammed home the third soon after resumption before two late goals from Meagan Newman and substitute Nomvula  Kgoale completed a miserable day for the East Africans.

Though Tanzania had all but lost the encounter in the first leg in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago when  they conceded 4 goals in their backyard, for a team that demolished Mozambique in the first round, a lot was expected of them.

However, Basetsana were just too good on the day and with a bit of some luck could have scored a couple more goals.

“This was a great win and I am happy the girls are beginning to believe in themselves. We are still on track to qualify for the World Cup but we need to take one game at a time,” said coach Sheryl Botes.

“For now, we need to celebrate this is part of the journey knowing we are still to cross the line.”-TDN

Community consultation to precede conversion of mining royalties to equity shares- Premier Modise and Lonmin agree

Image

A broader consultation with the Bapo Community is necessary to consider a proposal to covert mining royalties it is supposed to receive from Lonmin into equity shares, North West Provincial Government delegation led by Premier Thandi Modise and the mining house agreed in Mahikeng on Friday.

While Premier Modise and members of Executive Council (Exco) have expressed their in-principle support for Lonmin’s proposed empowerment transaction, they have insisted that it needed endorsement by the community.

The meeting also agreed that the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela who is investigating the payment of mining royalties to Bapo Ba Mogale Tribal authority and their administration through the Provincial D: Account should be briefed about the proposal by Lonmin before it is finally sanctioned by the provincial government.

In welcoming an announcement by Lonmin’s Executive Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs, Lerato Molebatsi that her company has ring fenced R120 million for local procurement in the new financial year, Premier Modise said that while this will boost the local economy and improve the lives of people around the mining community, the provincial government wishes to review Lonmin’s social labour plans to ensure that communities in the province benefit from the R6 billion that the mining house has set aside for Corporate Social Investments over the next 5 years.

“While mining is a national competency, the abject poverty that surrounds the world’s second producing  platinum mines in the province is our greatest concern hence we are insisting on an urgent review of social labour plans of all mining houses,” emphasised Modise.

The provincial government has set aside R20 million for water and sanitation projects to be implemented in Marikana during the current financial year. Lonmin has also committed to augment the amount with an additional R35 million towards the projects and development of roads in the area.

The company has recently donated 50 hectares of land to the provincial government for development of an integrated human settlement project in Marikana towards which it would invest R500 million over the next five years.-TDN

Nogwanya said all liquor outlets found violating licence conditions would be closed.

Any motorist or their passengers found drinking while driving would be prosecuted, he said.

Zebra United coach lambasts the tournament set-up

By Obakeng Maje
Taung-The Lucas Tlhomelang tournament kick-started yesterday and teams were upbeat to play and win their games to qualify for next rounds.

The teams came out blazing and most players are registered with a local league.

However Zebras United coach William Nerven blasts the set up and says more referees and players legitimate date of birth need to be produced.

This came after the was a player from Bophirima All Stars who could not produce legitimate card as a registered player.

“I am not really happy because the referee standard was very poor as we saw career-threating tackles flying around, but the referee failed to protect players. But overall with tournament like this we learn and see how far are we with standard of football” said Nerven.

Lucas Tlhomelang also shared the same sentiment as said this is all the start: “Probably this is only the start as by doing this we’re also learning. We need more equipments and as I said this is a learning curve for us”.

Zebras United lost 2-1 against Bophirima All Stars and will player their next game on a back foot to try and catch-up and accumulate points.

Tlhomelang said even though the potential is there in many youngsters, more soccer clinics need to be provided.

“The potebtial is there, but the players need to be developed. They need to learn more about football techniques, tactics and basics. Said Tlhomelang.

He said with time and with more experienced coaches, they can climb the uphill.

Taung is a remoted area and football development is equally to zero.

Tlhomelang brought other former player like James Mothibi to help develop current players.

Rangers FC show their pedigree

By Obakeng Maje
Taung-Former Orlando Pirates defender Lucas Tlhomelang organised a three day tournament at his hometown, Pudumong village, near Taung that was kickstarted on Friday and will end on Sunday.

The tournament will be annual and according to the former Bafana defender.

Rangers FC kick-started the tounament like a house on fire.

They played first game against Zebra United and emerged victorious.

They showed their pedigree again in second game where they played against Zulu Royals.

Rangers FC striker Thapelo Mosala opened his scoring account after he received a well pass from his team mate.

The Manthestad-based team played an enterprising football with splitting passes on display.

Mosala double the matter before his counterpart, Boikie Maritshi put his name on a score sheet.

The game was opened as Bophirima Zulu Royals showed some hints of good skills while on the ball.

The flood gates opened when Maritshi scored his second goal and stretch a lead.

Mosala put the game beyond opponents reach after he scored another goal to make scoreline 4-0.

The buyoed defence from Zulu Royals tried to keep things in balance and to save themselves an embarassment, but Rangers were not in a compromising mood.

“We looking forward to play a game and hopefully qualify for semi-finals. I am very grateful for this initiative as we will now see more young players getting opportunity to trade their football at highest level.” Rangers coach Obakeng “Prosto” Mogabale said.

Mogabale said things are very difficult to run a team as they do so from their own pockets and in a shoe-string budget.

“We would like to appeal to sponsors to come on board and support rural teams. Running a team from your own pocket and in a shoe-string budget is not good at all. We want to see more players to emerge from Taung and we’re grateful to see this kind of tournaments taking place” outlines Mogabale.

Rangers FC won a game 5-1 after Mosala scores a first hatrick of the tournament.

Zulu Royals fc Owageng Pico pulled one for his team.

Rangers FC will square up again tomorrow with another team to decide their fate as they are sitting comfortable on the summit of their group with six point.-TDN
