Ventersdorp- North West police arrested a 21 year-old man for murder after he stabbed a 37 year-old man to death over beer. 

This happened yesterday at boikhutsong village near ventersdorp.

“according to information received the two were at a tavern and the argument ensued over a beer. they were engaged in a fight and a 21 year-old suspect took out a knife and stabbed a 37 year-old man numerous times” she said.

police arrested a 21 year-old suspect and will appear before ventersdorp magistrate court soon.

Klerksdorp- A 29-year-old suspect was arrested by police after he allegedly raped a 53-year-old woman North West police said.

“This incident took place at Blinkwater,near Brakspruit in Klerksdorp yesterday at about 00:45pm” Captain Adele Myburgh said.

“The victim was asleep in her house and woke up  when she saw candlelight. She got out of bed to investigate and was overpowered by the suspect who assaulted and raped her” She said.

The police managed to arrest the suspect after following-up on a tip-off.

The suspect will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Swartruggens- Police are investigating an inquest after a one year-old baby boy allegedly drowned in a bucket full of water.

“This incident happened on Friday at about 17:30 in Bordelo, Swartruggens” Captain Adele Myburgh said.

“The mother of the baby was allegedly preparing food inside the house when the baby wondered off. His body was discovered in the bucket after his mother searched  him.aa case of inquest has been opened.

“According to information received the pedestrian was crossing over the tarred road when he was hit by two cars” captain adele myburgh said.

Bafana Bafana got their last stretch of preparations for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations off to a winning start with a scrappy 3-1 victory over Malawi at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on  Saturday.

The hosts played their best football in the opening and closing 10 minutes of the game but struggled to hold onto possession for large portions of the game.

After a superb start to the game, it took just six minutes for Bafana to open the scoring. Lerato Chabangu lashed a shot at goal which Simplex Nthalal was only able to parry into the path of Lehlohonolo Majoro who made a simple finish from close range to bag his first goal for the national team.

Bafana were buzzing and poured forward at every opportunity. Four minutes later they would celebrate again when Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s cross was deflected across the face of goal and Siphiwe Tshabala stormed in to poke the ball over the line.

The South Africans then seemed to take their foot off the gas slightly as Malawi finally started to get the ball, but they struggled to create chances.

The goalkeeper would have to tip away a dangerous ball in from Tshabalala in the 33rd minute while David Banda saw his ferocious long-range strike dip just over the crossbar.

No more real chances came for either side in the dying minutes of the half as Bafana went into the break with a two-goal advantage.

The game continued to be scrappy after the break but just three minutes in Robert Ng’ambi went down under a challenge from Siyabonga Sangweni just inside the area. The referee was ready to book the player for simulation, but the linesman changed his mind and the referee pointed to the spot.

Josephy Kamwendo stepped up and sent Itumeleng Khune the wrong way with a perfect penalty into the top corner.

With the hosts struggling to take control, coach Gordon Igesund introduced Tokelo Rantie and May Mahlangu to give them an injection of pace.

Bafana eventually started to enjoy a little more possession but it would take a brilliant burst from Rantie to bring things to life. The forward turned his defender before flying into the area and poking the ball away from James Sangala who dove in, resulting in another penalty. Mahlangu was given responsibility and calmly sent the goalkeeper in the opposite direction.

Bafana finished strongly as they kept the Flames pinned in their own half but they were unable to take advantage with another goal as the game ended 3-1 in favour of Bafana.

CAPE TOWN – Both Vietnamese and South African governments signed an agreement on Monday, which focuses primarily on the trade wildlife. 

The agreement, which is being hailed by conservationists, will have a massive impact on the illegal trade of rhino horns and poaching itself. 

“There are clear indications that rhino horn trafficking will be top of the new agenda on co-operation between the two nations,” the WWF said. 

WWF-Greater Mekong Conservation Director Stuart Chapman said in a statement that: “South Africa and Vietnam have publicly signalled their intention to get tough on the criminal syndicates behind the rhino poaching spree,” 

South Africa is home to about 85% of Africa’s estimated 25,000 rhinos. At least 618 rhinos have been poached in South Africa This year.

Vietnam is believed to be the epicentre of the illegal rhino horn trade, as locals believe it can cure disease and bring fortune.

Taung-Jabulani Tsambo, better known as Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP) or Jabba is a South African rap artist who performs in multiple languages, although primarily Setswana.

Raised in Mmabatho, HHP’s break came in 1997 when he and his school friends met with renowned producer Chicco Twala who produced their debut Party. The band split soon after the release of Party.

Tsambo met singer/producer Isaac Methethwo who then worked full swing on Jabu’s 2nd debut album. The result was Introduction, an album that introduced a new, vibrant and innovative genre.

The album was recorded in different South African ethnic tongues like Setswana, isiZulu and Sesotho, to name a few.

HHP appeared on the third one-off TV special of quiz show Test The Nation, entitled National Parenting Test, as the Team Captain representing fathers.

Lehurutshe- Two suspects aged 18 and 19 respectively were arrested after they robbed a tuck-shop in Dinokana,near Lehurutshe.

The two suspects allegedly entered a tuckshop owned by a bangladesh man at goo-ratsara and demanded cash and free cigarettes.

” “a bangladesh man didnot want to hear none of it and never burge.they allegedly hauled him with stones and he ran for cover” murburgh said.

“they allegedly looted his store and helped themselves with undisclosed cash and free cigars. police arrested them few hours later after a tip-off” she said.

police urge all business owners to be observant and not to temper with any evidence that could lead to arrest.

Mooinooi- Police arrested a 26-year-old suspect and is still searching for 4 other suspects after they allegedly committed a business robbery at Palm City Shop on Friday at 08:00 North West police said.

“They entered the shop and shot the owner in the face after threatening two male employees with a knife and firearm” Captain Adele Myburgh said.

“The owner of the shop who is a between 55-65 year-old came rushing into the shop and shouted at the robbers after one of his employee ran outside screaming” She said.

The robbers fled the scene empty-handed but shot the owner in the face.

The owner was taken to a hospital in Rustenburg for medical treatment.

The police followed-up on information, which lead to the arrest of the 26-year-old suspect.

More arrests are expected to be made soon.
