Gauteng’s controversial e-toll project has dropped out of the headlines in the past few months but with the National Assembly having recently passed the Transport Laws and Related Matters Amendment Bill, its implementation isn’t too far off.

Transport Department spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso said the bill was now with the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) where it has to be passed before it goes back to the National Assembly.

One of South Africa most sought after musician, songwriter and bassist Mohau Lucas Senyatso, has joined Mmabana as a tutor. The immensely talented Senyatso is not new to the institution as besides studying music at the institution, he grew up in Mahikeng and earned a Communications Degree at the University of the North West, before venturing into full time music.

With a jazz album titled ‘All of Me’ to his name, add South Africa’s music luminaries to his profile to see that Lucas has been around the block. Having played with the likes of Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo and Gloria Bosman just to name a few, Senyatso has what it takes to help turn the fortunes of Mmabana.

I am very excited to be part of the teaching staff at Mmabana Mahikeng”, said Senyatso adding that he is also looking forward to begin teaching students in Mmabana Lehurutshe and Taung in the near future as the opportunity presents to him more than just teaching music in ‘my beloved province’, but is also about empowering the province’s arts populace to become a proud community.

Moroka Swallows recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Black Leopards at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium to condemn them to a sixth defeat in seven Absa Premiership matches.

The Dube Birds meanwhile has racked up four wins in their last five league matches with Katlego Mashego getting the all-important goal in tonight’s win.

Bennett Chenene was on target five minutes on but Leopards goalkeeper Azwindini Maphaha was equal to the task.

It was then the turn of Sibusiso Khumalo to test the keeper who again stood firm with Leopards unable to direct their attempts on target at the other end.

Rodney Ramagalela then forced Greg Etafia into his first notable save of the night to ensure both sides went into the break level.

The goal keepers continued to dominate with a number of good stops although the efforts they were forced to deal with were mainly speculative shots from distance.

Defender Larry Cohen had a chance with a header with just over 10 minutes to play but directed it wide from only a few metres out.

In the 84th minute substitute Mashego did the job he was brought on to do as he got on the end of Chenene’s cross and expertly placed his shot into the corner to win the game.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hailed the importance of his side’s Absa Premiership win over Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday night.

The Brazilians beat the Urban warriors 3-1 at Loftus and Mosimane said the win was crucial in their bid to crack the top half of the table.

“We needed this win, we are desperate and we needed the points. We need to move up a little bit, we are trying to make the top eight,” he said.

“We laboured, it was hard work but it was well earned. I knew in the second half they would be emotional and want to equalise.”

The former Bafana Bafana coach went on to state that he would not stop tinkering with his team as he searched for the most fruitful combinations.

“Our transition is good, I’m happy to keep going and exploring and giving other guys a chance to play. I brought Eleazar (Rodgers) today, our lucky charm,” said Mosimane.

“I was talking with the president, Patrice (Motsepe), and he said Eleazar is out lucky charm and he was our lucky charm (today).

“As much as I want to take the team out of where they are and into top eight I am not afraid of exploring. At the end of the season I must know who did what and give everyone a fair chance to play.

“There is 21 points to play for, today we created five chances and we took three. I’m happy, last time we created five and didn’t score. “

Tweefontein, Mpumalanga – A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Happy Sindane, Mpumalanga police said on Tuesday.

“The 58-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in KwaMhlanga on Tuesday and charged with murder,” said spokesman Colonel Leonard Hlathi.

Sindane was found dead in Tweefontein, next to KwaMhlanga, on Monday.

Police said Sindane appeared to have been stoned to death.

Sindane rose to prominence in 2003 when he alleged that he was a white boy who had been kidnapped by black people.

After a four-month inquiry to establish his identity the Bronkhorstspruit Children’s Court found in September 2003 that Sindane’s real name was Abbey Mziyaye and he was the son of a black domestic worker, Rina Mzayiya.

The court found his father was probably a white man, Henry Nick, who employed Mzayiya in 1984. He was born that year. The whereabouts of both were unknown.

In 2004 Sindane was run over by a minibus and a car when he was lying in the road outside the Sizanani Trust Village place of safety in Bronkhorstspruit, where he lived.

It was not known why he was lying in the road.

Later that year he appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for malicious damage to property. He was arrested in Marabastad, Pretoria, after he allegedly broke the windows of a taxi with stones.

In 2005 the charges were dropped after the taxi owner told the court he had repaired the damage himself and did not wish to proceed with the case.

Sindane was also awarded a settlement payout by Dulux paint company which used his image in an advertisement “any colour you can think of”, which he said was done without his permission.

Hlathi would not state whether the police were looking for more suspects.

The man is expected to appear in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face a charge of murder. – Sapa

Taung-A 40 year-old man appeared briefly before Taung Magistrate’s Court for police impersonification.

A Klerksdorp-based man was arrested in January by North West police after a tip-off from community members.

Police found David Manyonyo, 40 in possession of affidavits,dockets and other state forms in Chief’s Court near Taung.

“Taung Magistrate Court postponed the case of David Manyonyo after he was arrested and charged for police impersonification” said Vaaltar News.

He will remain in custody until the next appearance.

“The case will resume on the 30 June and he will remain in jail” report Vaaltar Fm News.

Chris Brown admits that his infamous assault on Rihanna in 2009 was “absolutely wrong”.

The popstar, who has in the past refused to address the issue, has been more oppen of late about the the incident that shattered his reputation. According to the Daily Mail, Brown is desperately trying to win over the public and show sceptics that he is a changed man.

On Monday, Brown spoke openly about the assault and his subsequent counselling with Today Show host Matt Lauer.

“I think it is just proving myself once again and me being a man. Knowing what I did was wrong and never doing it again,” he told Lauer.

“As far as she (Rihanna) and I are concerned, she knows my heart and I know her heart. I am not really focused on the negative, everything is positive for me. I did my 52 weeks of couselling and learned it was absolutely wrong.”

Brown, who is currently promoting his latest album, Fine China, said he played the incident over and over again in his head during counselling.

“It was domestic violence counselling. A 52 week program. Every Monday in Virginia, I remember going, sitting in there thinking “why did I do what I did?” I really just wanted to get help,” he said.

The 23-year-old, who has engaged in a few vicious Twitter spats with detractors since the incident, told Lauer he realised that some people would never forgive him.

“I am moving forward, positively. I think for me it is about proving myself to my fans and for me my fans have been my number one support,” he said.

“The naysayers are going to have their opinion. Anything I do… It’s not going to be “Chris is the greatest”. So I am not going to focus my life on pleasing those people. The only thing I can do is please my family, myself and please her (Rihanna) and my fans.”

In an earlier interview with Idols host Ryan Seacrest, Brown revealed how he managed to win Rihanna back.

“I just tried my best to be the best man I could be over the years and just show her how remorseful and sorry I was for the incident and that time was probably the worst part of my life and being that she has and she’s a wonderful person I’m eternally grateful and thankful,” he said.

Durban – A KwaZulu-Natal man was jailed for 25 years on Tuesday after being convicted of killing his aunt and wounding a bystander at her husband’s graveside.

The Pietermaritzburg High Court found Lungisi Mdluli, 38, guilty of shooting dead his aunt, Buyi Joyce Radebe, during her husband’s funeral in Newcastle in February.

Mdluli pleaded guilty, stating there had been animosity between his aunt and himself about whether her husband, Ngobile Radebe, should be buried in Johannesburg or Newcastle.

Mdluli claimed Buyi Radebe had threatened to hire hitmen to kill him over the disagreement. During the funeral at a cemetery in Newcastle, he saw her talking to two armed men he suspected could be the hitmen.

He walked up behind her and began shooting, killing her and wounding a bystander, Ngobile Radebe. He told the court he then tried to commit suicide, but failed because other mourners beat him up.

KwaZulu-Natal deputy judge president Achmat Jappie convicted Mdluli of murder and attempted murder.

Jappie said although Mdluli was motivated by fear, he should be heavily punished as he killed a defenceless woman, and it was in the community’s interest.

He said Mdluli had a tertiary qualification which showed he was capable of reformation. He imposed 20 years’ jail for the killing and 10 years for the attempted murder of Ngobile Radebe.

Five of the 10 years would run concurrently with the murder sentence. Mdluli would be eligible for parole after serving 15 years in prison. – Sapa

Polokwane – A Limpopo policeman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly shooting and wounding his girlfriend.

The 42-year-old sergeant apparently shot the woman around 3.30am after an argument in their home in Ga-Makanya near Polokwane, police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto said.

“The 32-year-old woman was hit in the left arm and left thigh, and was taken to hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.”

The officer was arrested and his official firearm confiscated. He is due to appear in court later this week on an attempted murder charge. – Sapa

Kimberley-Two men who are believed to be Sol Plaatje municipality employees aged 49 respectively were arrested and charged for theft Northern Cape police said.

They were found being in possession of suspected stolen goods. 

“While Kimberley police were busy with their regular patrols, they stopped and searched at the local scrap yard on Cecil Sussman Road” Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said. 

“A 49-year-old man was found in possession of 61 water meters to the value of R 12 200 while waiting on a queue to sell them at the local scrap yard” Tawana said. 

Police said when he was questioned as to where does he get the water meters from, he tried to bit around the bushes. 

“The police took him to the Sol Plaatje local municipality office to confirm the ownership of the water meters. On arrival at the municipality office it was confirmed that the water meters belonged to the municipality, and the suspects are the employees are its own employees” police said.

“The suspects confessed when they were arrested. They said that they stole them from the water works storeroom” Tawana said. 

Other suspect further alleged that he was together with his 45-year-old supervisor during the commission of crime. 

The supervisor was arrested on the municipality premises.

Both suspects will appear before the Kimberley Magistrate Court tomorrow on charges of theft and for being in possession of stolen goods.
