Two suspects killed, one arrested for murder in N West

By Obakeng Maje
Leeudoringstad: A 24-year-old suspect was apprehended for murder, house robbery and kidnapping committed on Saturday at Droekraal farm, Leeudoringstad.

“It is alleged that three suspects arrived at the farm at approximately 14:00 and found a male and female farm employees. The latter were then tied with ropes and locked inside the house.

“It is further alleged that the suspects attacked and shot the farm owner upon arrival few minutes later” colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

According to the information, the farm owner was then brimmed in the boot of his car which the suspects fled the scene with.

The tied pair allegedly managed to untied themselves and pressed the panic button that alerted neighboring farmers.

One of the farmers managed to see the farmer’s vehicle leaving the place and a vehicle chase ensued.

“The confrontation of the suspects by two farmers ensued and that led to shots exchanged between the two group approximately 30 kilometres from the farm towards Makwassie” Mokgwabone said.

Two suspects were allegedly shot and died on the scene while the third one was arrested.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the 24-year-old suspect was an accused in house robbery case back in 2012 of which two of his accomplices were sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment while he was acquitted.

5-year suspended sentence for rape probed

Johannesburg – Authorities are investigating the suspended jail sentence handed to a Limpopo man who raped and tried to kill his ex-girlfriend, the Sunday Times reported.

For raping the woman twice William Mtshali received a five-year suspended jail sentence from the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court. For trying to kill her he got a R2 000 fine or 12 months’ jail.

Mtshali lured his ex-girlfriend, a chef at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort near Mookgophong (previously Naboomspruit) and his direct subordinate, to a remote part of the reserve. He demanded sex from her one last time after she quit her job.

When she refused, he dragged her into the toilets at a deserted boma and raped her, following which he threatened to kill her. He severely assaulted her, and raped her a second time.

The matter came to light when the woman approached the labour court for alleged sexual harassment by her employer, a reference to Mtshali’s rape and assault.

Acting Judge Sean Snyman said he was “completely appalled” by the sentence and said the justice system had failed her.

The Magistrates’ Commission, the National Prosecuting Authority, the justice department, and correctional services would investigate the sentence.

Jaws traffic unit recovers drugs on a taxi from Gauteng

Delareyville- Jaws special operations unit has recovered drugs from a taxi that was travelling from Gauteng to Mahikeng.

It is reported that the drugs were smartly wrapped and given to the taxi driver for delivery without knowing what the parcel contains.

In suspicion an unknown person alerted the hawks which teamed with the Jaws operations to trace the taxi.

The two teams waited for the driver to call the male person who the drugs were to be delivered to and he was arrested by the hawks.

The Jaws unit further impounded the same taxi for non operating license and the driver paid R2000 fine on the spot.

The case is still under investigation by the Hawks Special Investigation Team.

Furthermore, three other male suspects were arrested by Jaws driving a vehicle with a Gauteng registration number during the Jaws Special Operation in Zeerust.

The vehicle was detected through the Number Plate Recognition System (NPRS).

The information received is that the three suspects have pending cases at Jan Kempsdorp, Rustenburg and Delareyville.

Again, the N4 Traffic Highway Patrol Team has also arrested a member of the public in possession of a platinum worth 60 to 70 thousands of rands. The case was opened and the police are investigating.

North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Gaoage Molapisi said the arrest of suspects in all incidents is a clear indication that criminals have no place in Bokone Bophirima and will accordingly be dealt with.

“Our operations have began to bear fruits and we are sending a very strong message to criminals out there that side by side we move with them and will suffocate them.

“These criminals put the lives of our people in danger as they threaten their safety and destroy our people’s lives more especially youth with these drugs and we will never tolerate or fold our arms while our people are perishing”.

Criminals are not allowed in this province and we will continue working hard to put them behind bars where they belong,” strongly warned Molapisi.
