Police Sought Hit and Run Motorist

Kimberley police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 47-year-old Eunice Maureen Beerkat was killed in a hit and run on Barkley Road, between Santa Centre and Homestead.

 

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Sergio Kock said it is alleged that on Sunday, at approximately 19:00, the driver of a white car hit the deceased, with the vehicle and after the incident sped off from the scene without ascertaining the injuries sustained by the deceased.

 

Eunice was transported to the local hospital where she later passed on as a result of injuries sustained during the accident.

 

“The driver of the white vehicle is still at large. However we are appealing to members of the public to assist the police with the information which may lead to the arrest of the driver of the white car, alternatively the driver of the white car can handed him/herself or to Kimberley police station or to any nearest policer station” he said.

Krugersdorp accident leaves four children injured

Four children were injured following an accident on Rustenburg Road in Krugersdorp West this afternoon.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a heavy goods vehicle and two motor vehicles were involved in the accident. Reports from the scene indicate that one motor vehicle crashed against the side of the other motor vehicle resulting in one of the vehicles then coming to a standstill against the heavy goods vehicle.

 

Upon assessment of all the occupants from all three vehicles, paramedics found that two boys and two girls travelling in one of the vehicles were injured during the crash. A boy was found to have sustained serious injuries while the other boy and two girls sustained minor to moderate injuries. The drivers from all three vehicles were not injured during the accident.

 

The four children were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

 

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

 

Traffic was severely affected as a result of the crash.

Booysens hit and run incident leaves man injured

A man was injured following an incident on Andrea Road near Booysens Road in Booysens, Johannesburg this afternoon.

 

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found a twenty-five-year-old man lying on a grass patch next to the side of the road.

 

The man verbalised that he was lying on the grass patch during his lunch break when a towing vehicle drove onto the grass patch and drove over the man. The vehicle continued to drive off following the incident.

 

Upon assessment of the injured man, paramedics found that the man had sustained serious injuries during the incident.

 

The injured man was treated at the scene, placed on a trauma board and transported to hospital for further medical care.

 

Exact detail surrounding the incident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.

MEC Molapisi to handover driver licenses and learner driver licenses to disadvantaged learners

Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Gaoage Oageng Molapisi will handover 32 driver licenses and 185 learner driver licenses to disadvantaged learners

In the last financial year, 300 learners from 5 selected schools across the Province participated in the project. Learners were trained by accredited instructors who were contracted by the Department.

The learner driver license project was initially implemented in 2012 in support of the Ministerial call towards the realization of the Decade of Action for Road Safety goal of reducing road fatalities by half in 2020.

This noble intention of the project is to ensure that these learners complete their Grade 12 in possession of a valid driver’s license which will lessen the urgency which often result in corrupt practices as newly employed or unemployed youth are more likely to be desperate for drivers’ Licenses as it is important an added advantage for employment.

Chinese shop-owner arrested with illegal firearm and illicit cigarettes

The police in Reivilo are investigating a case of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition without a license after a 41-year-old Chinese national was arrested on Tuesday, at about 16:55 in Reivilo.

North West police spokesperson, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said that the police were searching the shop owned by the suspect for illicit cigarettes.  They were allegedly busy with the search when they found a firearm loaded with three rounds inside the box.

“The suspect could not provide the police with the relevant document and the suspect was apprehended while the firearm was seized. The police also found and seized 45 packets (20’s ) of  illicit cigarettes, and the suspect was issued with a fine” Mokgwabone said.

The suspect is expected to appear in Reivilo Periodical Court on Thursday.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the firearm belongs to a police official. It is not yet clear at how the suspect got hold of the firearm.  The case of negligent loss of firearm has been registered against the member and the internal investigation has been instituted” he said.

MEC GAOLAOLWE SETS TO PRESENT NEW PLANS OF SERVICE DELIVERY

North West MEC for Social Development, Fenny Gaolaolwe will on tomorrow outline her new plans of service delivery in her budget speech to be tabled at the Provincial Legislature at 09h00.

Gaolaolwe will, among others outline plans to fight poverty, youth development, massification of early childhood development centres, social crime prevention and job creation initiatives in the current financial year.

His spokesperson Petrus Siko said MEC Gaolaolwe will also present a trail of successes that the department has attained in the reporting period.

“The MEC will also focus her attention on the current community projects aimed at a improving the lives of people in villages, townships and small dorpies. I also want to indicate that these service delivery achievements were not made during the year under review only. They were made during the twenty years of Freedom.

MEC Matsemela Awards NW Flames their Provincial Colours

Rustenburg- MEC for Education and Sports Development Wendy Matsemela is excited about the second edition of the 2015 Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League and believes that the NW Flame Netball team will do the province proud.  “We are sharing the joy with you as you will be representing the province, we wish you all the best” said MEC.  “It is our wish as Education and Sports Development to see each and every sporting code being supported accordingly… and as you go out there remember that you are walking in the footprints of the many sports men and women who have made us proud in the province”, added Matsemela.  The Handover of the provincial sporting colours was held at Holy Family Combined School, Mogwase (Rustenburg) yesterday.

The Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League is the sport’s flagship competition in South Africa and underlines the phenomenal growth of the code in recent years. Most importantly the second edition of the tournament indicates another step towards the goal of a fully-professional women’s sport.

The provincial women’s netball team, North West Flames will be going against defending champions Free State Crinums in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League.  This match will set in motion the tournament which will start on Friday the 08th of May 2015 at the University of Pretoria Sports Campus.

The competition once again pits 10 provincial-based teams from all nine provinces against each other over five weeks of intense competition. For the second year in succession the event will take place at the University of Pretoria’s impressive sports centre from where Super Sport will broadcast 37 of the 48 matches live from the venue.

Another Doctorate for SAFA president

The University of Fort Hare has awarded SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Administration for his excellent work as an outstanding football administrator.

 

Dr Jordaan, whose sterling work as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on home soil earned him global accolades, will be conferred with the Doctorate at the graduation ceremony to be held in East London on Thursday, 7 May 2015.

 

Fort Hare has played a key role in producing some of the finest leaders in the country and much of the sub-Saharan Africa, including the likes of the late former state President Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo of the African National Congress, Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Robert Sobukwe, Desmond Tutu, Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere, Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo.

 

Fort Hare has been undergoing major period of renewal and revitalisation aimed at playing a key role in supporting post apartheid democracy through the generation of world-class skills, cutting edge knowledge and active involvement in socio-economic development.

 

Dr Jordaan already has Doctorates from the University of South Africa, the Nelson Mandela University and University of the Western Cape.

 

He is a recipient of the Special Presidential Award (1994) from the late State President Nelson Mandela in addition to Presidential Sport Achievement Award which he received from former President Thabo Mbeki in 2001 and the Order of Ikhamanga in Gold from President Jacob Zuma in 2011.

North West man hits woman with axe, burnt self

Police in Atamelang are investigating a case of  Attempted Murder and Arson after a 54-year-old woman was beaten with an axe by her 52-year-old boyfriend on Monday,  about 16:15  in Vergewart, Atamelang.

 

North West police spokesperson colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspect was involved in a fight with his girlfriend when he allegedly took out an axe and hit her on the head several times.

“The woman managed to escape through the window. Allegations further stated that the man burned himself inside the shack. The police were called to the scene and upon arrival the man was burned to ashes.  The woman was admitted in hospital and is in a critical condition” Mokgwabone said.

 

The police have registered a case of Attempted Murder, Arson and an Inquest.  Investigation continues.

North West premier saddened by the death of local journo

Mahikeng: The Premier of Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government Mr Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo has received with deep shock news on the untimely death of Kabelo Monnapula, who until his death on Sunday evening was a Senior Journalist and co-owner of a local newspaper, North West Journal.

Joining the media fraternity, government communicators and the entire North West community in extending his condolences to the bereaved family, Premier Mahumapelo said the Province has lost one of the young and promising print journalist.

 

“Kabelo Monnapula was certainly not an ordinary media practitioner. He demonstrated his patriotism through his writing on government’s community development agenda and contributed credibly in the establishment and shaping up of a number of community newspapers; a legacy which must live on”, Premier Mahumapelo said.

“We will certainly miss his courage and unreserved commitment to bridge the information gap between the public and private sector and the communities of Bokone Bophirima Province. We pray for the bereaved family to find peace and comfort during this difficult time. May Kabelo’s soul rest in eternal peace”.
