Bafana Bafana coach attends 2026 World Cup draw in USA

3 December 2025 – Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will travel to Washington DC, in the United States of America, to attend the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw this week. Broos will join several coaches and officials from the 48 countries that have qualified for the tournament to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June – 19 July 2026.

But first, the Bafana Bafana coach, who is back home in his native Belgium, announced his final squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco from 21 December – 18 January 2026. Mduduzi Shabalala, Iqraam Rayners and Thabo Moloisane are on standby and the team will assemble in Tshwane in the coming days to begin preparations for the continental tournament.

“It is very important that we have players who know that if something happens with injuries or whatever, we can count on them. We will ask them to stay in shape and train, and keep in good condition because should something happen, we are prepared. So that’s why I have selected these players and will keep them on standby,” he said.

Bafana Bafana is in Group B in the AFCON, and they will face Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe. The South Africans play their first match of the continental tournament against Angola on 22 December 2025.

North West province receives torch run

3 December 2025- The Moretele Local Municipality said the North West has proudly claimed its role as the new home of the law enforcement torch run, known as the Flame of Hope. The municipality said this powerful symbol of courage, unity and inspiration, will be securely managed by the province’s South African Police Services (SAPS), who stand as the official custodians of the flame until the highly anticipated 2026 Special Olympics National Summer Games. 

The Moretele Local Municipality mayor, George Manyike said on 2 December 2025, the municipality confidently received the torch run from the Limpopo SAPS. Manyike said the handover took place at Maubane Crossing, at the intersection of the Carousel Casino along the R101, following an impressive official police parade and a guard of honour by the Limpopo police. 

Meanwhile, the Limpopo MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, officially delivered the torch run to Manyike, who promptly entrusted it to the capable hands of the SAPS in North West. Lerule-Ramakhanya said the entourage confidently proceeded to the Carousel Casino for a formal program. 

“Attendees were treated to an impressive performance by the Diturupa group from Maubane village, known as Rocker. The torch was officially accepted on behalf of the North West Province by the North West MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports, and Recreation, Tsotso Tlhapi. 

“In her powerful acceptance speech, she delivered a message of hope and firmly reiterated the province’s commitment to hosting the SOSA Olympic Games,” she said.

DA lays criminal complaint against Tshwane Deputy Mayor

3 December 2025- The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane has lodged a criminal complaint against the deputy mayor, Eugene Modise with the South African Police Service (SAPS). The statement made by DA Tshwane Caucus Chief Whip, Jacqui Uys upon laying the charges draws attention to issues such as the findings of a Tshwane investigative report that confirms that Modise failed to declare and divest his interests in Triotic Protection Services, a service provider of the municipality.

Uys alleged that Modise continues to benefit from this contract in contravention of the Code of Conduct for Councillors. She further said the R59 million judgment granted in favour of SARS against Triotic Protection Services in August 2023, which raises the question whether at material times the company submitted the tax clearance certificate necessary to do business with the state.

“The need for a thorough investigation in terms of the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act, 12 of 2004 into the circumstances under which Triotic’s contract with Tshwane was procured and extended.

Mayor Nasiphi Moya has known that Modise benefits unlawfully from a municipal contract since September. Yet she retains him as Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance, a portfolio critical to Tshwane’s financial recovery.

“Modise acts in her place during her numerous overseas trips, is allowed to make unilateral announcements about disputed salary increases with enormous financial implications for the City, and he routinely accompanies City officials on by-law enforcement operations despite his own contempt for the law,” said Uys.

She further said Moya’s failure of leadership sets a terrible example for Tshwane officials. Uys added that but it also confirms the extent to which parties like Action SA, the EFF and the Patriotic Alliance, have effectively become co-opted comrades willing to turn a blind-eye to the abuses of cadres like Modise.

“In preparing our complaint, we have been assisted by the private prosecution unit of Afriforum under former NPA prosecutor, Adv Gerrie Nel. This is to ensure that the case against Modise is properly investigated from the start,” she said.
