14 October 2025- A man (32) was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Kimberley Regional Court for brutally assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The victim was at her residence in Lerato Park when an argument broke out between her and the accused, Itumeleng Setlholo.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Merapelo Pilane said during the altercation, Setlholo struck the victim with an empty glass bottle and proceeded to stab her in the face before fleeing the scene. Pilane said the victim was transported to a local medical facility, where she received treatment for her injuries.

“Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was positively identified, arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).
“The Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Orapeleng Mamapula of the Galeshewe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, successfully opposed bail, which was subsequently denied,” he said.
Pilane further said after several court appearances, Setlholo was found guilty and sentenced to five years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Meanwhile, The Frances Baard District Police Commissioner, Major General Charlotte Makgari, commended Detective Constable Mamapula for his outstanding investigative work and for ensuring the swift finalization of the case.
