5 October 2025- Effective collaboration between the police and community members led to the arrest of four suspects in separate incidents involving the possession of livestock or produce suspected to be stolen in the Pixley Ka Seme District on 4 October 2025. In the first incident, police in Victoria West, received a tip-off about meat suspected to be stolen and stored at a local residence.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the police swiftly followed up on the information and located the identified premises. Shemane said upon arrival, the police discovered a slaughtered sheep inside the house.
“A 40 year-old female found on the property was questioned, but could not provide a satisfactory explanation for her possession of the meat. She was subsequently arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock or produce.
“In an unrelated incident in Philipstown, SAPS members acted on intelligence regarding possible stock theft at another residence. A 70 year-old man and female, along with a man (35), were found in possession of meat but, were unable to give a reasonable account of its origin,” he said.
Shemane further said all three were arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock or produce. He added that all suspects will appear in their respective courts soon.
Shemane said the police management in Pixley Ka Seme District commended the community for their unwavering commitment and cooperation in the fight against crime and applauded the swift action of SAPS members, which led to the arrests and recovery of suspected stolen livestock. He said the management urged farmers and livestock owners in the Philipstown and Victoria West areas who may be missing animals to report to their nearest police station or contact SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS App.
