More than ten suspects nabbed during Operation Vala Umgodi

24 March 2025- Ten individuals were arrested for contravention of Section 49 (1) (a) of the Immigration Act, 2002, in Gèelhoutpark, Rustenburg. The suspects who are Zimbabwe and Malawi foreign nationals, were arrested during Vala Umgodi and expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In Freedom Park near Phokeng, the police nabbed 12 undocumented foreign nationals from Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi between 20 and 21 March 2025. All the suspects are due to appear in the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane on Monday, 24 March 2025.

The North West police spokesperson, Capatain Mpho Manyoba said in Mogwase policing area, nine undocumented foreign nationals were arrested between 21 and 22 March 2025, in Moruleng near Mogwase.  Manyoba said furthermore, the police confiscated illegal mining equipment at Witrandjie illegal mining site.

“In Schamburg, near Hartbeespoortdam, the team confiscated abandoned penduka machines and steel balls. The ongoing Vala Umgodi operations continue to deal effectively with illicit mining and related crimes in the Bojanala Platinum District.

“This comes after the Vala Umgodi deployment confiscated two excavators and several other illegal mining equipment that were found abandoned at Bapong illegal mining site in the policing precinct of Mogwase on 20 March 2025,” she said.

Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, thanked the police for their continuous efforts in the enforcement of the law.
