10 February 2025- Three suspects were arrested for being in possession of copper cables in Kimberley during the early hours of Friday morning, 7 February 2025. The suspects were arrested during a swift reaction by a multidisciplinary team of SAPS units.
According to the Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Dikeledi Gopane said the Kimberley Public Order Police members were busy conducting crime prevention duties around the Kimberley area, when they received information of the vehicle entering Kimberley from the direction of Griekwastad.
Gopane said when they spotted the identified vehicle fitting the description, they stopped it at the intersection of Griekwastad and Schoorsdrif road.
“Upon searching the vehicle, they found three foreign nationals aged 33, 26 and 41 respectively in the vehicle with suspected stolen copper cables in the boot of the blue Toyota Corolla.
“The six rolls of copper cables are estimated to be worth approximately R100 000. The vehicle was seized as it is believed to be used in the commission of crime. All three suspects are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen copper cables,” she said.
