10 February 2025- The police in North West said the members of the public and community, who do not know where their next-of-kin are and they know or suspect that they were working in and around Khuma / Stilfontein as zama zamas and have not seen or heard from them for some time, they should kindly get into contact with the investigation team at Stilfontein Police Station on 13 and 14 February 2025, between 8am and 3pm.
The North West police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said those who come are requested to bring along their official identification, which will be used for the drawing of DNA samples.
“A total of 18 samples have been taken since the beginning of the identification process last week. Enquiries regarding the identification process can be directed to Colonel Francois Jacobs on 082 373 8216,” he said.

10 February 2025- More than 20 wanted suspects were arrested by the police during a wanted suspects tracing operation on 6 February 2025. It is alleged that, the suspects have been on the run from the police for various offences such as assault GBH, theft, assault common and theft out of a motor vehicle were arrested.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said suspects have been evading court appearances and court orders. Sam said all suspects were arrested at their respective residences in Roodepan and briefly appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 7 February 2025.
“The police are encouraging the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the RATE OUR SERVICE online survey to assist the police in improving services,” he said.
10 February 2025- A man (23) was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Kimberley Regional Court. This follows after the accused, Allesandro Swanepoel, unlawful took of a cellphone by force from a victim in Millia Street, Roodepan on 14 March 2024.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said on the said day, the victim was sitting outside his home when the accused, who was passingby, suddenly entered the victim’s yard, wielded a knife and took the victim’s cellphone and hastly ran out of the yard.
“The victim immediately informed the police as the suspect was known to him, and he was subsequently arrested. The accused was found guilty on a case of robbery and sentenced to seven years imprisonment, that will run concurrently with a 15 year sentence that he is currently serving on another matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Gabathata Makgari, praised the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Mojalefa Setlai, for the meticulous investigation of the case and for ensuring that perpetrators of property crimes are brought to book. 10 February 2025- The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Northern Cape said it has accomplished significant operational successes in terms of crimes related to essential infrastructure and the prevention and policing of these crimes remains a priority. The police said Criminal Matters Amendment Act of 2015, clearly states that it is a criminal offence to tamper, destroy or damage essential infrastructure.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said It is also an offence to collude with, or assist another person in any such activity. Ehlers said offences, which may interfere with the provision of a basic service relating to energy, transport, water, sanitation and communication, are covered under the act.
“If convicted, it provides a severe penalty of imprisonment. The precautionary measures such as installation of physical deterrents like fences, impact resistant glass and strong locks and doors, can be implemented to prevent these crimes. Have bright security lights inside and outside the property.
“Clean up vandalism and remove or repair any damaged item as soon as possible. Install video surveillance, hire security services company to provide security guards and public are urged to report incidents of this nature to the police via the MySAPS app or 08600 10111,” she said.

10 February 2025- A man (36) allegedly drowned in Ronaldsvlei, near Kimberley on Friday. At around 11am, the SAPS Search and Rescue teams from the Northern Cape and Free State, retrieved the body of the man from the approximately 11m deep water pit.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the deceased is believed to be a resident in that area. Kock said the family reported the matter to the police after they found his shoes floating in the water of the pit after searching for him for two days ago.
“A case of inquest was opened. Anyone with information can contact the Kimberley SAPS detectives on 082 495 4646 or the SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or report it on the MySaps app. All information will be treated confidentially.
10 February 2025- The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Kakamas is in search of a suspect in an alleged rape case occurred on 26 January 2025, near Voortrekker street in Kakamas. The suspect allegedly attacked the victim and her boyfriend on the said date and later returned and raped the victim.
The ZF Mgcawu District police spokesperson, Sergeant Omphile Masegela said an identikit of the suspect was compiled and he is estimated to be in his late 20s to early 30s, a coloured man, speaking Setswana and Afrikaans. Masegela said the police are requesting the assistance of the public and any person who may have information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact the investigating officer, Constable Lesego Mokati on 079 697 7836.
“All information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality,” he said.

10 February 2025- Three suspects were arrested for being in possession of copper cables in Kimberley during the early hours of Friday morning, 7 February 2025. The suspects were arrested during a swift reaction by a multidisciplinary team of SAPS units.
According to the Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Dikeledi Gopane said the Kimberley Public Order Police members were busy conducting crime prevention duties around the Kimberley area, when they received information of the vehicle entering Kimberley from the direction of Griekwastad.
Gopane said when they spotted the identified vehicle fitting the description, they stopped it at the intersection of Griekwastad and Schoorsdrif road.
“Upon searching the vehicle, they found three foreign nationals aged 33, 26 and 41 respectively in the vehicle with suspected stolen copper cables in the boot of the blue Toyota Corolla.
“The six rolls of copper cables are estimated to be worth approximately R100 000. The vehicle was seized as it is believed to be used in the commission of crime. All three suspects are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen copper cables,” she said.

10 February 2025- Two South African National Defence Force soldiers, (SANDF), died in a horrific car accident, while 17 others, were transported to hospital for medical treatment. The identities of the deceased not yet known as their next of kin must be informed.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the SANDF truck was allegedly traveling in rainy weather conditions from Lohatla to Kimberley when the accident occurred. Kock said the cause of the accident forms part of the police investigation.
“The police are investigating a culpable homicide case following an accident involving a SANDF truck, which overturned on the R31 road between Koopmansfontein and Delportshoop.
“The preliminary information indicates that, the accident occurred on Friday afternoon, 7 February 2025. The truck was traveling with 19 SANDF members from Lohatla Army base enroute to Kimberley,” he said.

By KEDIBONE MOLAETSI 10 February 2025- The police appeal to the community to assist them in locating a missing person, David Waterboer (14), who went missing on 7 February 2025, Nababeep. Waterboer was allegedly last seen at his house on 7 January 2025, around 11:30am and later apparently also seen at the athletics in Concordia.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Sergio Kock said he was apparently seen again at a bus stop in Concordia on 8 February 2025 at around 6:20am. Kock said the police assisted by community structures, established a search team to search for Warerboer.
“He was reported missing to the police on 8 January 2025 and all information can be forwarded to Detective Sergeant Deory Smit on 082 495 5305. Alternatively, you can call the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or utilize the MySaps app.
